Take this for what it's worth, in light of how the past few days have gone, but the Parise camp says "hopefully" a decision could come today

Detroit upped their original $80 million/13 year offer to Suter to $90 million. They want to keep the cap hit to under $7 million/year.

Jagr?

Oh man those poor Stars must be desperate.

No offense to Jagr he had a decent year but that was because he was on the leagues top offense in the Flyers.

On a team like the Stars? Throwing away money IMO.

If you break it down it's really not that bad.

Ott for Jagr = improvement
Riberio for Roy = improvement

Whitney is old but still good, valuable experience as well. Rome/Eakin is very meh.

I'm a huge Derek Roy fan, I've always loved his game, he's just been on some of the worst offensive teams in the league. He's a 70+ points Center on the right team, him and Benn will be a great combo.

Parise's camp, while not completely ruling out decision tonight, says it will "probably be" Wednesday. Let's do this all again tomorrow, OK?

Gagliardi's scheme is to make the Stars so bad no one comes to the games, thus clearing the way for him to coax the NHL into moving the team to Seattle. And you thought Major League was just a sports movie?

Agreed. Ribeiro was bad the last few years.

Disagree. Jagr is well past his prime so at best this is a push. Add to the fact that Stars fans loved Ott and have no interest in seeing a washed up superstar (sounds like how the Texas Rangers of old used to make deals), and my earlier post stands--this is simply a way to make the team so unappealing that fans stay away, then the owner gets the NHL to let him relocate them to Seattle.

Just depends.

Ott had 39 points last year and a +5, and 32 points and a -9 the year before. Not like he was good.

Jagr had 54 points in 73 games last year, and was +5.

From a stats perspective, it's an improvement. Whether or not that transitions from the Flyers offense to the Stars, and another year of age, who knows. Based on last year, or even the last 3 years for Ott, I still say Jagr is/will be an upgrade.

The problem though is that the Stars are essentially in the same position that the Coyotes and Thrashers are in -- they have no fan base. So why do you trade away your most popular player then sign not one, but two, 40yo players when you need to get younger, not older?

This is what the Texas Rangers did for so many years -- sign a past-his-prime superstar and hope that he had just enough left to push the team over the hump. The only thing that kept the Rangers from being serious contraction candidates is that MLB would never agree to move a team out of a top 5 media market. But the NHL's "southern strategy" isn't working too well. Plus Dallas has no near rival.

Again, I believe that the new owner has a long-term goal of moving the Stars out of Dallas and up to Seattle (so much closer to Vancouver where he lives). He couldn't get the NHL to approve the sale of the team to him if he said anything ahead of time (that's why the Coyotes are still stuck in Phoenix), but if you make the team bad enough, eventually you can convince the NHL that a DFW-area team simply isn't viable (like Atlanta) and then get the green light to move them out.

Unless somehow Houston ends up with a team that's probably what will happen.

Minneapolis-Star Tribune reports Minnesota has reached contract agreement with D Ryan Suter, Penguins' other top UFA target.

Parise will be announced soon.

Wild will still suck.

Suter just signed with Wild.

Seems almost certain that's where Parise's heading.
