Free Agency begins at 11am CT today, July 1st.
Zach Parise, Ryan Suter, and Alexender Semin are easily the top 3 UFA's. Teemu Selanne, Martin Brodeur, and Shane Doan are also top tier.
The top RFA is Shea Weber.
Other skilled UFA's include forwards PA Parenteau, Dustin Penner and Jiri Hudler, and defensemen Jason Garrison and Matt Carle.
Zach Parise likely destinations: Minnesota Wild, Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit Red Wings, resigning with New Jersey Devils.
Ryan Suter likely destinations: Pittsburgh Penguins, Detroit Red Wings, resigning with Nashville Predators.
Rick Nash is involved in heavy talks in a trade to the Philadelphia Flyers, CSNPhilly.com's Tim Panaccio reported Saturday that the Flyers are in serious discussions with the Columbus Blue Jackets to acquire Nash's services.
According to Panaccio, Columbus general manager Scott Howson is seeking forwards Brayden Schenn and Sean Couturier -- or one of them with several other players. Nash carries a $7.8 million cap hit over the next six years. The Blue Jackets' captain had 30 goals and 29 assists in 2011-12.
Add updates as they fly in.

WAY overpriced for what you get imo.
The Flyers giving up Schenn and Couturier? There is no way in hell I would do that.

There's no way Columbus will trade him to Detroit without us giving up half our team.

Zach Parise could be riding shotgun with Sidney Crosby for the next decade.
The Pittsburgh Penguins are expected to offer Parise, the best forward available in free agency by a landslide, a 10-year contract between $75 million and $80 million, according to Josh Yohe of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Hope this happens. As much as I hate Pitt, Parise signing with them and not Minny/Detroit both keeps him out of the West and forces NYR/Philly to up the ante to get Nash.

Parise is supposed to inform the Devils in 4 minutes whether or not he is resigning.

This.
He's not going to the Central Division. In fact, the only team in the West I see in the Nash race is SJ. I think NYR and Philly are tied in the lead, with Ottawa slightly behind (may depend on if Nash is willing to waive his NTC to go there) and Carolina and SJ as potential sleepers. I'd be shocked if he went anywhere else.
To be honest, I don't know if Nash would be worth a $7.8 mill cap hit by himself in free agency, let alone the return that would be required in a trade. He was to us, because he was the only marketable superstar we've ever had, but to a team like Detroit, no way.

Illitch and Chelios flew out to visit Suter. Holland went to visit Parise.

According to Tom Gulitti (NJ beat writer) Parise going to market. NJ not necessarily out, but other teams in.

Zach Parise is going to market. NJD not necessarily "out" but everyone else is "in." Start your engines.
The Devils board reaction is a little funny LINK

I was very surprised when I found out Marty was testing the market. The Devils could easily be out of the playoffs next year.

Sounds like no one is going to come close to matching the Wilds offer to Parise.
quote:
Wild intend to offer Parise $12m signing bonus' for the first two years in addition to $2m per worth of actual salary for those years (totaling $28m for the first two seasons). So that's likely where that Kyper report is coming from and why Zach's representation is looking for that from other teams. - Russo

I don't like that. Seems like a way to cheat the cap hit. Wonder if the NHL will do something about it/enforce a penalty, similar to the Kovalchuk deal with NJ, where they had to forfeit a first round pick.
BTW, if anyone wants to watch TSN's feed, here it is:
