You would have more fan passion, better rivalries, better attendance, better road trips for opposing fans etc. This is especially true if the NFL is going to continue forcing division opponents to play each other twice.

I would propose something like this:

NFC (Western half of the country):
Div 1: Seattle, San Francisco, LA Rams, LA Chargers
Div 2: Vegas, Arizona, Denver, Kansas City
Div 3: Dallas, Houston, New Orleans, Tennessee
Div 4: Minnesota, Green Bay, Chicago, Detroit

AFC (Eastern half of the country):
Div 1: Miami, Tampa Bay, Jacksonville, Atlanta
Div 2: NY Giants, NY Jets, New England, Buffalo
Div 3: Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Indianapolis
Div 4: Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, Carolina

Do they realign every time a team can't successfully shakedown some city for a new stadium and have to move?

I love how op talks about having better rivalries and splits up some of the oldest and deepest rooted rivalries in the nfl with Dallas vs nfc East and saints falcons

Don’t know about that, but I’d get rid of AFC-NFC and take top 12 teams and seed 1-12. Same with NBA, get rid of East-West conferences

1. They mostly are with a few exceptions for teams that have moved.

2. They don’t want the LA and NY teams playing each other twice a year.

Unfortunately a few rivalries had to end to create far more. For example, How does it make any sense to have 3 Florida teams and none of them play each other in the same division? You have Miami currently in the same division as New England, Buffalo and NYJ. The Lions, Bears, Packers, and Vikings are a great example of the kinds of true regional rivalries that can form when you actually base a region on geography.

you can easily argue against the idea of purely regional divisions, but his groupings are spot on geographically.

There are probably more people living in Miami from Boston, NY, NK and Buffalo than any other east coast city.

You should go ahead and realign MLB while you’re at it..

The NFL only needs one more realignment. Move Baltimore to the AFC East. Move Indianapolis to the AFC North. Move Miami to the AFC South.

AFC NORTH:

Cleveland
Cincinnati
Pittsburgh
Indianapolis

AFC EAST:

New England
Buffalo
New York
Baltimore

AFC SOUTH:

Jacksonville
Houston
Tennessee
Miami

Patriots and Ravens battling for the division title each year would’ve been must see TV imo

The Patriots would have a few less Superbowls.

The Ravens are a notorious physical team.

The Patriots would have entered the playoffs a little less team healthy having played the Ravens twice during the season.

For the current AFC the only changes you need to make really are:

Ravens to the East, Dolphins to the South, and Colts to the North.

The NFC shouldn’t change at all, but if you are going to get pissy about the geography for the NFC then Dallas would go to the South and Carolina to the East.

Might as well.
We don’t have any real rivals in the south
Not like we would in the East either. We’d just be another dolphins

Why is Dallas in the east to begin with? That’s just as absurd as Miami being grouped with the NY teams and NE.
