Clearly Drew Stubbs is the best defensive CF in the game today then. Man, the dude can cover some ground. He's gotta be the best.

Why be like that?

Seriously haters will just always hate. I don't know what more you want from Andruw but he did it all. If you can't recognize Andruw as the best defensive outfielder in his era then you didn't watch him play.

He literally did it every single game.

Andruw shits on every single centerfielder of today. Guys of today only seem to be able to do it for 2-3 years and fade off.

I was kidding. Stubbs can't even hold his own spot in Cinci on the reg.

My point was covering ground =/= greatness.

I just know there's a number of outfielders I would easily take over jones. Not the case with junior.

Cool your jets, Andruw.

No ones "hating" on ya boy. Not one person said he was a poor player/fielder. Some, myself included, just don't want to crown him as the best of his generation.

Take it down a notch

Because he isn't. Ichiro has been just as good a fielder in less years. Plus he has the complete package. Incredible arm, great fielder and great hitter. Can cover just as much ground (if not more).

Ichiro:

In the league since 2001 (Jones been in the league since 1996)

600 more hits
.322 career batting average (.255 for Jones)
Single season hits record (262)
10 consecutive gold gloves (the same amount as Jones)
10 consecutive all star games (twice as much as Jones)

This. I think some people in here only saw Andruw after his prime. He was OBVIOUSLY the best of his generation. Maybe ever. If you think otherwise you are just a hater or uninformed.

If said people only saw Andruw after his prime then they clearly only saw Griffey after his prime...soooo....

I'm sure

I've been living my whole life with a vendetta against Andruw and was just waiting for ESPN commentators to call him the best outfielder (not defensive outfielder mind you) of his generation so I could start this thread

Ichiro a better outfielder than jones?

Now you're really showing your arse. I'm a big ichiro fan but he is no Andruw. Not by a longshot. If you're gonna come in here saying ichiro is better than jones defensively, you have proved to everybody that your opinion is invalid.

Please stop using gold gloves in your argument.

Most people in here were saying he's the best defensive outfielder of his generation. All of those have to do with hitting.

Oh I know. Ichiro must have denied you in the sack.

I'll show you. You responded to this post:
quote:

You don't remember the 90's too well do you. Jones was not only the greatest defensive centerfielder of his generation, he is one of the best EVER. there's only 2-3 guys ever that one could argue were as good or better than him.

with this
quote:

To be honest, I'll take Ichiro before Jones. Same gold gloves, less time in the league (5 years) and a better arm.

#1 I am not arguing with anyone who is talking about defense. Go read back through the thread and you'll notice me laughing at people instantly insulting my intelligence and calling me a "moron" for questioning Jones.

#2 The thread wasn't supposed to be about defense. The announcers said best "outfielder" of his generation. Which I do find a big problem with.

#3 I realize your bolded statements are hitting stats. If you read the post I said "
quote:

Plus he has the complete package
. Because I said that, I mentioned his hitting stats.

#4 I don't fancy a defensive outfielder over an all-around outfielder. Jones has consistently been a below average outfielder throughout his career.

That is crazy. I must be misreading the quote. I can't find the word "better" in there anywhere.

Once again, I fancy a complete outfielder more than a defensive one. Ichiro has had remarkable fielding numbers over the past decade plus he has one of the strongest arms I've ever seen. Watching him field balls in BP is one of the coolest things I've ever seen.

I'd rather Brees as my QB more than Brady. Does that mean I think Brees is better? No, not at all.

I really can't believe some of what I'm reading. Griffey is hands down, without question a first ballot HOFer. Jones will probably make it eventually but one could easily argue that Griffey is one of the best who has ever played the game. Ever. If he didn't get injured in Cinci, he could have made an even stronger argument
