Optimal Cubs lineup has Zobrist in RF and Contreras > Molina

Molina is "old news"

I have to ask, how old do you think Lester and Arrieta are?

Lester is either 33 or 34, And jake is around Carps age since their bff's and carp is around 30 or 31? Lester is who I keep saying is legit old, arrieta is old news as far as saying hes not a dangerous pitcher like he was.

Speaking of that, want to know Carp's career numbers vs. "old news" Arrieta? How about "old man" Lester?

Sure!

Because one players numbers tell the whole story!

I also bet, he faced these guys when they were younger, and in Arriets term, in their prime? Am I wrong?

Well, considering Arrieta and Lester have only been in the NL Central for the last 3-4 years, That's what we will use.

VS. Arrieta - 0/24, .200 OPS
VS. Lester - 5/25, .570 OPS

oof.

When can we expect Arrieta and Lester to start sucking?

I bet you were pimping Chris carpenter as he pitched like an ace into his mid-late 30's, huh

Wade Davis, Strop, Rendon, Carl Edwards are all cheesing 95+ heat. They added Uehara. Mike Montgomery from the left side

Davis is legit no doubt. Rondon was abysmal last year after Chapman came over. Strop is very average and Edwards is unproven.

If the Cubs top 3 are Davis, Rondon and Strop I'll take my chances with the Cardinals top 3.

Wanna know why this is stupid and in no way proves anything about either player?!?!?!?!

Jason Heyward, you know, the guy who sucks at hitting a baseball?

Vs Arrieta - .333 avg .722 OPS
Vs Lester - .417 avg 1.125 OPS!!!!

So wait, how does this work again?

Geez.

You can take lance Lynn and Michael Wacha. I'll Take Lester and Arrieta.

The only position player on the cards that is an upgrade over the Cubs player at the same position is dexter fowler

We can do the same thing here as with the rotation:

1B: Rizzo vs Carpenter CUBS

2B: Zobrist/Baez vs Wong/Gyorko CUBS

SS: Russell vs Diaz CUBS (assuming Russell improves contact making him a more complete player)

3B: Bryant vs Peralta CUBS

LF: Schwarber vs Grichuk PUSH (until Schwarber can stay healthy a prove he can be at least average in the field)

CF: Almora/Jay vs Fowler CARDS

RF: Heyward vs Piscotty CARDS

C: Contreras vs Molina CARDS trying to say that Contreras is a better player than Yadi is insane. He probably will be in a couple years but not now.

Cubs have big advantage in infield. Cardinals have slight advantage in outfield/behind the plate.

Which was where this seemed to be going the whole time.

Serious question tho, does your pitching rotation not worry you at all, and I mean in maybe 2ish years? Its been a minute since I looked at your farm, but it didnt seem like any real gem going up. This will also be around the time you'll have to start paying some big contacts for the young studs, no?

Lackey - 40
Lester - 35
Arrieta - 33

I guess Montgomery may take over.

Brett Anderson....?

Point is, If I was doing a draft, Id take in order:

Hendricks
Martinez
Lynn
Wacha(if healthy like they say he is but who knows)
lester
Arrieta
and so on

So you would take Lance Lynn over Jake Arrieta and Jon Lester? I can no longer have a baseball discussion with you because you're a fricking moron.

No, because Theo has shown us that he will invest the farm in bats, and buy/trade for pitching. So far, it's worked pretty well, don't you think?

Fortunately, it isnt a make or break thing if the Cubs cant develop a starting pitcher or two. They have the resources to make a play for an arm in free agency.

Schwarber, Baez, Russell, Bryant arent eligible for Free Agency until 2022. Contreras not until 2023.
