in additional revenue this year?(per Anthopoulos on 680) WTF? He keeps referring to a "mid market" payroll. They aren't Mid market with those numbers and that's with an OK TV deal.
Only the Yankees,Dodgers,Red Sox,Angels,Cubs and Giants
will have higher revenue numbers.

I'm not sure about that. There has been talk about them making a run at Harper in free agency

Talking about trading deadline numbers and the rest of this season.

Without more context, maybe he is alluding to the fact that their total salary is that of a mid market team?

My understanding is the Braves are not looking to expand the payroll and trade a farm system piece for a rental. You may see a major add in the off-season but my belief the front office rides this out and sss what the young kids can do.

they have some big contracts expiring this year so they can't add much money to the payroll
Scott Kazmir - 17.6 mil
Adrian Gonzalez - 16.4 mil
Bmac - 11.5 mil
Next year however....

Nah,he referred to em as mid market and why would he want to only add $4 million? Not him though he takes his marching orders from notoriously cheap Liberty Media.

Even with those numbers they're at $124 million...they can afford much more than $4 million with those revenue numbers.

Unless they are saving to do something major in the offseason
Posted on 7/1/18 at 9:04 am to RD Dawg
theyre actually at 131 Mil in total committed payroll
But regardless, there are still other expenses and the team is just not going to spend a lot of money right now.

Yea I think that's with bonus numbers but you're correct.
I just hope this isn't some long term trend with Liberty Media and when the current TV deal expires in '27 the Braves might be a top 5 revenue team.
I don't want to get ridiculous with their spending but
I would like em to re-sign Markakis and make a run at Kimbrel.Would be nice if they could have the freedom to
take a run at Brad Hand this year (for the right price)
but it obviously won't happen with their limitations.

My bad
I'm not a fan of trading much for a rental player

Neither am I...lots of guys out there that have 2 or 3 years left on their deal.

They also have a lot of capital invested into The Battery. They are succeeding earlier than anticipated. They were expecting to be at .500 or slightly better this year to set up themselves for a run starting next. Exceeding expectations right now, so they are going to sell the farm and salvage sustainable success for one half year. This offseason they’ll add one major piece or two and then hopefully go on a multi year run.

On the other hand, there is starting to be a logjam in the minors with pitchers, especially at the upper levels. I don't like the idea of selling the farm for pure four month rentals but it might be time to swap guys like Wisler and Sims for a bullpen arm who is controllable thru 19 or 20.

Ya think?
Braves revenue increased $124 million from '16 to '17
So I think their doing OK

The Braves have a shitty TV deal and they would be stupid to spend more money before the offseason. The only real way to add payroll would be to make a trade for a major league player and that would cost minor league talent and that would be dumb at this point.

Do not want. Too many bullpen issues to try to sacrifice the farm for a run this year.

Not to mention this Braves team has very little postseason experience. I think this team can look at adding a couple of bullpen pieces that don’t cost any prospects and help the team this year without giving up potential parts of the franchise going forward.
