Along with UConn when they join. It would make an even 12 teams. Dayton checks all the boxes for the Big East too. Private Catholic school. Rich basketball tradition with a large fan base. UD Arena is a fantastic venue (14,000). Think about how great the Big East would be this year with Dayton in it?

#4 Dayton
#10 Creighton
#12 Villanova
#13 Seton Hall
Butler
Xavier
Marquette
Georgetown
UConn
Providence
St Johns
DePaul

^^^^^
This would be a 7-8 bid league. I firmly believe adding Dayton would be a great addition.

You're overreacting because Dayton is having an unbelievably amazing outlier year.

Not reaching at all, Dayton has a Long history of great basketball. They have a loyal and large fan base. The city hosts “The First Four” every year. Dayton is a basketball school through and through. Dayton brings a lot to the conference.

Just recently, Dayton has made the NCAA tourney in:

2000
2003
2004
2005
2009
2014 (Elite 8)
2015
2016
2017
2020

But yea...an “outlier” year

How’s Dayton as a school? What about their other sports?

I mean... it is. 26-2 is definitely an anomaly for them.

About as good as other schools in the Big East. Their football is actually really really good! They just play in the FCS. If anybody is currently watching Dayton on ESPN2.....Obi Toppin is putting on a show!! Kid is a lottery pick!

How is it an outlier with the information I just posted? They’ve been to a Final 4!!! Dayton has been a constant in the NCAA tourney for the last 20 years. They aren’t a flash in the pan. They are top 50 in all time wins (#42) with over 1,700 wins. Again, Dayton is a great basketball school and would be a great addition for the Big East. Dayton would be the 4th winningest school in the current Big East.

Current Big East all time wins ranking:

#9 St. John’s
#21 Villanova
#33 Georgetown
#42 Dayton

Dayton plays in pioneer which is non scholarship. But most in Big East do that or are 1-AAA. But are they competing in the 10 with other sports?

Xavier may have something to say about that.

No kidding. SLU was considered a candidate for the BEast when they were in the midst of a three year NCAA run last decade until Jim Crews happened. Dayton's going to lose both Toppin and Crutcher.

Y’all are ridiculous. Dayton is a winning program. Dayton has (14) 20+ win seasons since 2000 alone. Y’all act like they’re going back to the cellar. Dayton is a constant NCAA tourney program. It’s like the facts I’m posting are meaningless. They have been more relevant than over half the current Big East the last 20 years.

VCU has been that good if not better than them during that time frame. This is all moot since the BE is content with a round robin schedule.

It’s funny you mention VCU, because that’s a school that the Big East should also add. VCU and Dayton are nearly identical in the last 20 years. Overall, Dayton is still the better program without question. Facts and statistics don’t lie.

Dayton - 20 NCAA appearances, 2 Elite Eights, 1 Final Four, 1 National Runner Up. Dayton #42 all time wins.
VCU - 17 NCAA appearances, 1 Elght Eight, 1 Final Four.

I feel extremely comfortable in saying they won't make it past the Sweet 16. I honestly doubt the make it past the round of 32.

This isn’t exactly a bold statement

That's why I added the part about the round of 32. If you are going to try and call someone out, read their entire post first.

Take a lap.

Since VCU has started playing, they would have the edge. More NCAA appearances (more since 2000), more Final Fours. Dayton does have 2 Elite 8's to one.
