Donaldson for 4 years would not have been good for the Braves. The Braves got his only good year in the last 4 years. Played in a handful of games this year and was not healthy enough for the postseason roster. People acted like he was irreplaceable this time last year too.
I’m not against re-signing Ozuna at all but I think there are possibly other ways of allocating that money that may help us more.

How exactly, especially with the DH in for 2021?
Yeah it was a shortened season, but he still hit over .300 and led the league in homers. And again, beyond the stats, he was the catalyst for this team in the dugout with the "mix it up" and selfies.
Why look elsewhere for that when you already know you're getting it?

We need to see our farm pitchers start to take the next step mentally. We all know Soroka has it. Fried made that step this year.
Fox showed a clip of him giving up a HR in 2018 and you could see him yelling into his glove and getting pissed off. Didn’t see that from him this year.
Anderson looks to be solid as a rock mentally but time will tell.
Wright certainly didn’t look great in game 3. Was awesome in the NLDS. If he could put it together it’d be huge.

Yankees went with a Deivi Garcia/JA Happ game in a short series and they couldn’t make a deal for a starter at the deadline either. Rangers thought Lance Lynn was Gerrit Cole and Clevinger was damaged goods. No one else who was worthy of coming close to starting a postseason game was available. Who should he have traded for?

it is time for BAUER OUTAGE!!!
or some other stud pitcher in our rotation.

The good news is that ATL is starting to become known as the place where people go to revive their careers. First Donaldson, then Ozuna and d’Arnaud. Hopefully we can start to attract players in the future m.

Every player you listed here is a better pitcher right now than Kyle Wright and Bryse Wilson.
You're using hindsight as 20/20 to defend AA, when it's indefensible that he didn't even try to make a move at the deadline.

Clevinger was damaged goods.
Don’t let hindsight blind your judgment. Alex was bailed out because Fried and Anderson were so good. Our pitching grossly overachieved in the first 2 rounds.

At least they are saying we will have our shot over the next 5 years.
Giving Braves props. Let's regroup and win this thing when we can all go.

Same conversation we’ve had a million times and we were talking about this a lot in the week after deadline day but the calculation was that we were the second best team in the NL even with the ghost of Kerry Ligtenberg as our #3. The only way we were going to beat the Dodgers was if our offense was on it’s A game and the bullpen was light’s out. First two rounds of the playoffs they were but this round we couldn’t sustain it. We win tonight if we get better performances from the O and pen even with the weak rotation.
The spin rate drop and velo drop for Clevinger were important and we saw why with the issues he had. Lynn is not worth mortgaging Waters+ for imo. Maybe some will disagree. No one else was available.
We must add a starting pitcher who can be counted on to give us a postseason start next year. That’s far and away the number one priority for the offseason for me.

How dare you insult Tommy Milone like that!

I want to reemphasize this point.
This is not the same thing as giving Donaldson a big deal. He was older, coming off an injury and hit .250 with 30 HR.
Ozuna is 29 years old and will likely finish in the top 5 in the MVP race this year and it's no coincidence that Freddie is going to win an MVP because Ozuna was hitting behind him.
You give that man a blank check, you're not going to find a cheaper version of that. If you let Ozuna walk, you're telling your team and your fans that winning is not important.

We win this series in 5 or 6 if we made a deal for a starting pitcher at the deadline.
Take Clevinger out of it if you want to assume he was getting hurt regardless of where he was traded, Lance Lynn, Mike Minor, Kevin Gausman all give us a better chance to win when you replace them with one of Wright, Wilson and Minter in the NLCS rotation.

Who is the pitcher that we should have made a deal for though? That’s what I don’t get.
Posted on 10/19/20 at 12:04 am to volfan30
Exactly. Braves fans expected us to trade for Cole or some shite. No one was available and the one good pitcher that was ended up hurt.

I just ETA'd it in the post above.
But regardless, maybe none of those guys don't change thing, but we needed something at that time and all of those guys could've been gotten for relatively nothing.
Not even kicking the tires on something was inexcusable.
