So did St Louis! They can hit though!

Hey WL

?@ajcbraves

Hearing #Braves would have interest in #Reds 2B Phillips if Cincy takes Uggla in deal. ATL probably have to include a top prospect.

Yea, they looked great the first time out against Kershaw. He had a bad game last night. Prob the worst of his career. Throw that game out as a blip on the radar.

I'm a braves fan, but before the season started I stated on these boards that I thought the structure of our lineup was absolutely retarded with all the low Batting average, high strikeout guys on the team. I got berated.

You sounds just as dumb now, don't worry.

5-0 against Kershaw in his last 5 starts. Not exactly an anomally.

Who would y'all be able to give up in order to get Dat dude BP?

Guy is an absolute stud, and would make a dangerous lineup even scarier.

0 ER in game 2. Led the NL in ERA the last 3 years. Safe to say that 7 ER in 4 innings won't happen very often.

Don't want Phillips. Hate his contract. He is a shell of the player he once was.

Brandon Phillips? He's not that great and his contract is just Uggla's twice as long

I really don't think the braves need to make any huge splash in the offseason. Injuries really crippled this team. Specifically Pena and Hudson. Not to mention venters and others.

This team is extremely young. I believe they have 13 players under 25. And won 96 games this year. Played like shite vs La and still should've at least went to a game 5 in Atl until frediot went frediot.

I say try and move uggla and BJ. It's doubtful any team bites but hey you have to try. Call up La Stella. He's not a superstar but look at Stl's lineup. They have a bunch of just base hitters that turn into beasts in the playoffs. Who's to say La Stella won't do the same.

Resign Hudson. Try and resign McCann. If not then Gattis, Laird can handle the job. Especially if betancourt is called up sometime this year.

Rotation of Minor, Tehran, Medlen, Beachy, Hudson is pretty strong. Pitching didn't cost us this year. So I think it's fine. Bullpen is best in MLB with the best closer in the game right now.

We need more Chris Johnson's and less Uggla's

Our highest-paid players and semi-recent big offseason signings are two of the worst players in all of baseball, both fitting that exact description: low BA, high Ks. BJ and Uggla sure helped a lot in that Dodgers series. I can't wait to sign Adam Dunn and Mark Reynolds this offseason. We have a very good pitching staff, sick bullpen, and some great players in the lineup, so it isn't surprising that we got 95 wins. It makes it all the more frustrating when we are so close to putting it all together and we spend all our money on BJ "Mendoza" Upton, already knowing that we have Uggla and other high strikeout, low BA guys in our lineup.

I will never run into anyone who disagrees me on this, except every time I come to Tiger Droppings. I don't know what is in the water supply down in Baton Rouge.

We ran into 96 wins this year. Again, what is your beef?

Which is awesome, because we have good players, a good pitching staff, etc.

My beef is this: we have a good team, but going into the year we knew we had a bunch of guys who bat for a low average and strikeout. What did we do? Get rid of Michael Bourn and Martin Prado, sign BJ Upton, Justin Upton. I thought the J Up signing was a steal and totally worth it, but again... not a great BA hitter, lots of Ks. Chris Johnson was obviously an awesome signing and a pretty awesome surprise to hit for average (but at the time of the signing, he seemed like another high strikeout, low BA guy. So i didn't understand the signing back then).

We had an obvious weakness in our lineup, and rather than fix it, we spent hella money on more guys that--while talented--contribute to that weakness and made almost no effort to get any guys who can be a good #1, #2 hitter. I'll admit, the BJ Upton signing went way worse than anyone could have imagined... but even if he did exactly what he has done his whole career, we would have spent a lot of money to add a guy who strikes out a ton and bats a miserable average... and put him in a lineup where a lot of guys already do that. I don't understand the approach.

EX/ Jason Heyward is a great hitter and did a good job at leadoff, but his power/xbh production is being wasted at the top of the lineup.

96 wins is great, and we had a great team... That being said, the structure of the lineup seems retarded to me... I think we could have been even better if the money was spent smarter.

Do not accuse me of being from Baton Rouge.

We need more players to play good and less players to play bad. Great analysis.

I'm worried about Chris Johnson next year.

Does any team in baseball have four African Americans starting at the same time? That would be the only positive I can see in this, engaging the AA community

Uggla-Phillips straight up is a win for the Reds when you factor in contracts.

I do think he would make us better next year though when you factor in defense.

Something like BP for Uggla and Gilmartin would be about as much as I could stomach and even then I would not be pleased.

The more I look at this, the worse this idea seems.

Then stop talking to so many people who think like you do.

Batting average is a horrible barometer of a player's worth.
