Do we want an Ace more than want J. Upton?

Yes. We probably can't afford Heyward and Justin and I think I would rather keep Heyward if he has finally turned the corner on hitting lefties.

ETA: Of course, we probably can't afford a legit ace either.

Just looking at salaries Upton is set to make 14.5 in 14 and 14.7 in 15.

King Felix is 22 in 14 and 24 in 15 going through 26 in 18.

So by moving Upton you are only 8 million off for what Felix is going to make. Now that is probably what it is going to cost to sign Hudson to a 1 or 2 year deal to be the 5th starter anyways so it is basically even, just minus an all-star left fielder.

For 15 it gets a little trickier but if you are able to move Uggla this year, no matter what you have to pay on his salary in 14 to do so, if you have his 13 million off the books in 15 then that covers Felix right plus 6 to invest in Freeman/Simmons/Heyward.

Keep in mind we have McCann (12m) coming off the books along with Maholm (6.5) and Hudson (9) and we honestly have a good bit of money to use to lock up the core of Heyward/Simmons/Freeman for 5+ years and cover the holes.

Keep in mind, that Felix is only 27 and honestly have a decent contract for a guy of his caliber. If you can lock up a core of Heyward, Felix, Simmons, Freeman, Teheran, Minor, Kimbrel then you are looking at a really nice 5 year run.

To do that it means no more stupid contracts to the Uggla's and BJ Uptons simply because you will not have to money to do so.

EVERY former teammate and former coach refused to catch him.

Yeah... I think there was a little bit more to do with it than a silly pregame prediction.

The only aces that are gonna be available are David Price and Cliff Lee.A package of Simmons,Teheran, Wood, and Bethancourt could get Price.Lee we would have only have to give up Wood and Bethancourt but take the whole fricking contract.

You want to trade a player with a 6.7 War this year. A 22 year old future ace with a 3.2 War this year.
The next Clayton Kershaw in Alex Wood.
And a our lone catching prospect when our franchise catcher is leaving?

Wood is the only one of those guys Wren should even consider moving. The rest should be 110% untouchable.

YEAH! LET'S TRADE TWO STARTING PITCHERS, OUR HISTORICALLY GOOD SHORTSTOP AND OUR FUTURE CATCHER FOR ONE PITCHER!

I like the idea of signing Lince as a reclamation project. Moderate risk with potential big reward.

All that time in San Francisco has gradually caused his wrist to go limp. Roger is an expert on these issues and would have him back to Cy Young form in no time with a diet of red meat and 80s action films.

I didn't say we should but it would take that kind of a package to get an ace.The way to get an ace is to draft and develop, spend 25 million a year for him,or a Mark Teixeria like trade. Our minors have no big time prospects right now and we would have to trade one of our young studs in the majors right now to make it happen.

Yeah we can't forget about how good Teheran can be. I like him a lot, he might be a top 5-10 pitcher in baseball if he gets his change back

Glad someone else is there with me on Teheran. Dude is still so damn young and has a huge ceiling.

He can be an ace.

Would likely need to throw in Sims and Heyward as well to be certain.
