Crazy to think it truly would be.

I just hope we don't sit on our hands.
With the young talent we have, if we get to 2017 or so without a World Series, we've completely fricked up and everyone in this organization won't deserve their job.

I just still don't fricking understand why he can't buy the team back.
A few years ago he had to withdraw, or at least substantially reduce, the amount of a donation he had pledged to the United Nations for some humanitarian work they were doing. He is living life comfortably, but I don't think he will ever have the available funds to buy a major league sports franchise ever again.

The Orioles message board won't activate my account. Bastards.

I thought the Cubbies were still rumored to be big in the Darvish bidding.

Not gonna lie, I'd watch you argue with the tards.

From everything I've read, they were below both the Rangers and the Blue Jays.

Interesting, I haven't really followed that closely, I just saw some tweet of a quote from someone in the CUbs and they said something to the effect of, "I wouldn't be surprised if we won the bid."

Heard the Rangers were in the 40 mill range. Think the Jays won the bid with 53

Jurrjens for Yonder Alonso. Who wants to do this?
Posted on 12/15/11 at 6:24 pm to SwampDonks
Want more. Give me a mid level pitching prospect. Always get a pitching prospect in return.
Posted on 12/15/11 at 6:34 pm to SwampDonks
I'm game. Even though Yonder is supposedly an awful LF.
Posted on 12/15/11 at 6:36 pm to OBUDan
He is. If he was even just average, or slightly below average, I'd be all for it.

You can scratch Rado from Prado's possible destinations. They signed Cuddy today

Good. We do not match up that well imo.

So let's see...
Braves have done what this offseason?
-Trade Derek Lowe (good move)
-Acquired some Lefty minor league reliever via Rule 5 draft
-Non-tendered A Gonz, Moylan and Conrad.
I keep checking a couple of times a day to see if they've done anything.... and nope.

Yeah, the pace is certainly depressing.

Question for the group -
1.) Why in the world would we ever even consider trading Martin Prado???
2.) Why do we want to trade Jurrjens? A young, really good starting pitcher entering his prime years.

Depending on what you think of them going forward, a lot of people believe they may have "peaked" or their stints of greatness are unsustainable.
My personal opinion is that Prado is a solid utility player that may not be able to repeat his years of hitting .300, etc. He's also not exactly natural in LF. But his versatility and team player mentality is awesome.
As for Jurrjens, I've been big on trading him, mostly because he's just excess. We have younger pitchers with higher ceilings behind him, so we don't "need him." He's a solid pitcher for sure, but likely outperformed his talent early last year. But then he underperformed it in the second half, so hard to tell exactly who he is.

Wouldn't that make it more likely they try and get Prado? Any deal has seemed like it has centered around Seth Smith and a prospect. Well now, Seth Smith has no value but a bench bat for them so they won't be hesitant to move him. They also will probably be more inclined to give up one of the prospects that we want.
