No way Seth Smith stays in Colorado.

2.) Why do we want to trade Jurrjens? A young, really good starting pitcher entering his prime years.

Dan hit it on the head. When you have 9 guys that are good enough to be in this rotation, you can't just sit on your hands and not try to improve your ballclub in other areas. Jurrjens is the player with the most value right now, as he has put up good numbers, is young, and under contract for another couple of years so he makes the most sense to go. Doesn't help his case that he's been injured the last two years and his advanced numbers suggest he will decline. He'll help out this team in a trade more than any other player right now.

Jim Bowden threw out a Carlos Quentin for Kris Medlen and JJ Hoover trade

who's in?

I'm not a big Carlos Quentin fan, and he's only under contract for one more year, but I think you would pretty much have to.

Not even a question. You make this deal in a heartbeat.

I'd make the deal if Quentin if we can extend him. Medlen is actually pretty valuable in the bullpen as he can spot start as well or go longer than 1 inning in relief(which is something we need with Fredi at the helm)

People on a Braves board are calling me out for wanting to do this deal because they don't think he's worth Medlen. Don't know if I'm gonna last on there. fricking tards.

I don't think it's a bad trade. Medlen isn't Hanson or JJ by any means, but he's a valuable commodity in that he can both start and pitch in relief successfully. That's a piece of our bullpen that was missing last year IMO as it would've decreased some of the workload on O'Flaherty, Venters, and Kimbrel.

I would do Medlen for Quentin without a second thought. Prado could go back to the super-utility role (where he is most valuable IMO) if we aren't able or decide not to move him.

Braves Nation is full of holier than thou tards. I occasionally post there, but they are very narrow minded. Tons of personal attacks. Teh internet is serious business on that site.

Christian wasn't too bad last year. Vizcaino adds that extra arm to the bullpen as well, and hopefully Fredi has learned his lesson.

I think we sign Moylan back which gives us some solid arms from the 6th inning on.

As for the reliever/starter thing. Heck, you are going to have Minor and Delgado just waiting in the wings wasting time in AAA. They can be called up at any time.

I just started posting on there this morning because I was bored, but I might not last it through the day with these idiots. You would think they would be more welcoming to new ideas since they have like a total of 7 posters on that site, but nope

Yeah, mark me down as being good on Quentin... Definitely wouldn't want to lose Medlen for him.

From someone on there I mean come the frick on, seriously

Hoover is probably the guy I would be less reluctant to include.

The site is very, very cliquey. I sometimes lurk on their gamethreads and new posters who disagree with the "vets" on an issue are basically chastised and belittled until they leave the site. The 6 posters who live on the site, though, make tons of dumbass posts and never call each other out on it.

Very poor business model for a message board.

This is probably the best place to discuss the Braves.

Talking Chop is alright, but the site layout + legion of 14 year olds makes it hardly worth posting there.

Braves Nation is, as you have by now learned, full of delusional homers.

Capital Avenue Club might be interesting for stat heads, but I swear most of them don't actually watch the games.

Medlen will never be a top 3 starter in the Majors. He's a good 4 or a solid 5, but we have how many guys that have the potential to be 1's and 2's? Quentin isn't what he used to be, but he's a vet that could help us in the form of letting Prado and Chipper split time at 3rd.

I know Prado is iffy at short, but getting Quentin, could allow us to throw Prado in at short on occassion, while letting Pastornicky assume full time duty. I know Wren and Freddiot want a veteran backup SS, but Prado could do that duty couldn't he?

On top of that, we could then unload JJ for whatever else we may think we need, or could keep him.

The only concern is, can Quentin stay healthy enough?

I actually agree. The 10 or 12 posters we have on here actually can engage in actual discussion, and everyone is pretty intelligent besides Hull.

That's my only problem with the deal. But if you hang onto Prado, you're only in trouble if Quentin and Chipper are out at the same time.

Also, never underestimate the production of a player in his contract year.

Do they think Medlen is a #2 starter or something? He's a 5th starter/bullpen guy. If we could get one season of 25 HRs and 80 RBI out of LF for that, you do it.
