I know he's making less than half of what Laird is, but I'd rather see Laird go

Most likely scenario.

How has Laird been doing lately? Why roadrunner and not lard?

Because if we dump Laird then you lose the ability to play Gattis as anything other than backup catcher once a week. Fredi would never put his backup catcher in ever unless his primary catcher is available. If we had a less retarded manager then trading Laird would be the obvious move, but as it is moving Juan was the right call.

Also, Laird has another year on his contract next year, and will backup Gattis.

Losing Laird would prevent Fredi from pinch hitting Gattis

so we keep someone who has never been worth a shite just so we can pinch hit Gattis? we can still pinch hit him without Laird on the team

I could see someone like Houston trading for him

We can but we won't with Fredi in charge.

Not with Fredi as manager we can't. You are confusing a rational approach when we are stuck with Fredi-world.

Yes, but the required in-game lineup moves would make Fredi's head explode.

you don't pinch hit your only backup catcher unless you absolutely have to in an extra inning game

So I'm not wrong that Laird would be the logical move, just have to account for Fredi being an idiot?

Heyward isn't striking out, is walking a lot, and has the lowest ground ball/fly ball rate of his career.

He is fine

Schafer and Heyward have the same xBABIP. Yet some claim Schafer has turned the corner and Heyward should sit.

Absolutely not. If you want Gattis to be worth his value, you have to have Laird on the team.

Plus Laird has a two year guaranteed contract.

At this point in his career Gattis should not just be a backup catcher.

But you can pinch hit him and leave him in the game in a double switch, then move him behind the plate if McCann goes out.

Then if it goes past 20 innings or so, Eddie Perez can shave his mustache real quick, put Gattis's 24 on, and waddle up from the pen.
