Uggla is useless
Posted on 8/11/13 at 3:09 pm to LSUsmartass
Who would be more valuable at 2nd, Uggla or Pastornicky?

A wet rock at second would be more useful than Uggla

Because I have no idea how a major league hitter can just suddenly suck so bad and keep it up for three years.
Players like Uggla tend to fade pretty quickly in their 30s. I don't think anyone expected it to be this rapid and this soon though.

Yeah Uggla's decline was immediate

Can we teach Jordan to play second? Although I suspect you could throw him there without any instruction and he'd be an upgrade over Uggla defensively

Simmons was hitting leadoff until mid July.

What are the chances the La Stella kid in Mississippi ends up being a decent second baseman in the bigs?

I'm liking his chances. With luck maybe we'll see him up sometime next year. He has more walks than strikeouts in his minor league career, over .400 OBP in the minors overall, apparently can at least be average defensively.
Currently hitting .344 with a .413 OBP and .868 OPS in 215 AA ABs. He's hit well at every level when healthy. I'd lost to see him in the #2 spot of the order if his skills could translate.

He's older in AA though. Don't know why he isn't in AAA

Uggla is 4 for his last 57, and isn't even hitting the ball hard at people. Fredi has benched Hanley Ramirez for less(or more, depending how you look at it)

Yeah he's been terrible
But this team still needs him

This team needs Uggla like the ATL Kliq needs lsu31.
Is what it is.
Is what it is.

How does the team need him exactly?

He's had some minor injuries the last couple seasons that held back his jumping levels a bit. And he's 24, which is older but not ancient for the level. Either way, you don't have a career BA over .300, OBP over .400, and more walks than strikeouts in the minors unless you can hit. The age versus level thing is a bit overstated unless you are talking about AAAA type players IMO.

Who else is going to play second base? He isn't as terrible as you think. He hits for power and gets on base at a better rate than most second basemen.
