They signed Hamels to eat innings and be a mentor.
And to be the #2 or #3 starter. But the mentor part is what I think they’ll miss the most this season. He would have been great for all these young arms to learn from. Especially in the post season. Oh well.

AA was on with Buck and Kincade today and said that a big issue over the years is that Folty has had trouble keeping weight on. That's not a problem you hear about very often. Hopefully it doesn't reflect any serious underlying condition for him.
They're hoping he clears waivers so they can get him back in Gwinnett but AA doesn't really think that's going to happen. I definitely don't think that'll happen.

Keuchel sucked in both of his. I have no idea why he got the ball in Game 1.

We outsmarted ourselves thinking his postseason experience was more important than the fact that Soroka was a better pitcher.
On top of that, it made zero sense to pitch Soroka game 3 behind Folty, especially after we lost game 1. Why we specifically planned to only have Soroka go once, I'll never understand.

Thanks for reminding us, Scott.

Road/home splits, IIRC

Yep and Folty had been pretty good since coming back from Gwinnett.
Still, it was us overthinking shite just like with Kuechel's postseason experience.

they were trying to do it under the guise of Soroka was the better road pitcher or some stupid shite. It ended up working out for those games 2 and 3 but dammit you have to have your best pitcher (who happens to be our most poised, confident, and mentally mature pitcher regardless of age) go two games in the playoffs.

What service do I need to subscribe to to watch these games? I live in LA. Tia

he's actually been fulfilling this part of his role. supposedly he and Fried have been inseparable, and he has worked with Fried on developing that change up into a major league pitch.
you can't pay a guy that much to be a mentor though. he needs to pitch in September/October.

Really? That’s good news. I just assumed with the virus that guys on the DL were told to stay away.

I agree, but it’s a lot to ask of a guy to miss the entire regular season to just insert him into the pressure and intensity of the playoffs like it’s NBD, no matter how much experience he has. Seems like a good way to get hurt. I’d just prepare like he’s out for the year, and if he winds up giving you anything at all, it’s just lagniappe.

That option is gone for Folty I believe.
He's gone

If he clears waivers I believe the Braves can send him wherever they want. I just don't see how he clears waivers. Somebody will think they can get out of him that which the Braves could not.
