The only people have cited in regards to Gattis is his OBP. Is OBP too complicated for you to understand?
totally

I might be in the minority, but I think he's a very good catcher. His arm is nothing special, but he gets in front of everything.
He's been very good at catcher, and decent in LF. Slightly positive UZR and neutral DRS in LF and +3 DRS at catcher.
Also, according to this article by Baseball Prospectus Gattis has been one of the best catchers in baseball at framing pitches (Mac is even better, while Laird flat out sucks at it).

Because that's totally something people have said in these threads at all period. Way to attack a straw man over and over while continually being obtuse about it.
Well that has been my position as to why he needs to stay. So it wasn't a straw man since thats been my position that the "send him down to AAA'ers" have been mocking for weeks. Seems like the mockery is only allowed to flow in one direction?
And we need to make room for another arm? Cut Reed Johnson. Trade one of Juan Francisco/Chris Johnson (for a bullpen arm preferably). Pena can spell the starter at 3B and switch hits. Gattis can spell FF at 1B when needed. Schafer fills the Reed Johnson role.
The WORST answer considering current value to this team is to fricking send down Gattis.

McCann’s framing skill has saved the Braves almost 125 runs over the past five seasons.

Evan Gattis’ framing performance continues to rate well, too.
Interesting analysis

What the hell is going on in the ATL thread?

Gattis cannot play the field well. Get that through your head.
Neither did Eric Hinske. Or Matt Diaz. Or Brooks Conrad. Or Corky Miller.
Seems to me like many players add value to a team without having to be a sparkling defender. I'm sure that somehow belies all kinds of "advanced statistics" though.

You are being mocked because you keep bringing up an argument and arguing against a position nobody made, and doing so aggressively.
A few people have wanted Gattis to go down due to lack of use and needing another bullpen arm. Gattis is getting like 6-8 ABs a week since Mac came back, which is problematic, even if he is making the most of them. Nobody has said crap about Gattis not being an asset to the team.
Chris Johnson is horrible defensively (which is fine as the RH half of a platoon but not full time), and Juan can't hit lefties, no way in hell we are trading one half of a straight platoon at 3B, nor should we. Pena has been great this year so far, but his career OPS is under .700, he's perfect for the role he's doing right now as backup middle IF.
Our realistic options are dumping Reed Johnson or Schafer, sending Gattis down, or dumping Laird.
Laird is unlikely due to his two year contract. Given how well Schafer has played this year I'd lean towards trading Reed, but Reed is a damn useful piece himself as a pinch hitter against lefties off the bench. But with Gattis on the bench that isn't quite as a huge an issue.

Ah yeah, that's right. Just warmed up.

You are kinda exaggerating his abilities at this point.
He's had good power, but not been overly impressive at the plate otherwise.
That makes him useful, for sure.
Sending him down could help refine his skills at 1B and LF.
But I have no real issue with him staying up.

We have a guy in the pen who hasn't even pitched since being called up, and another guy who has thrown like 3 innings in the last 2 weeks, and Fredi is going to send Maholm out for one more inning instead of getting a valuable look at one of those guys against a couple of quality hitters like Willingham and Morneau in a game that is out of reach. Brilliance. Pure, simple, brilliance.

Pretty much sums it up in a nutshell. At least Rasmus is coming in now finally. And at least it's Maholm going over 110 pitches, and not one of our young arms.
