Jesus christ swamps. Dude totally misunderstood the argument. Which is still a valid one. He still possesses a sub .300 OBP

@mlbbowman: Simmons said Jensen was on the first team he ever played for in Curacao. Simmons was four years-old. #Braves

You are complaining about Beatbammer being obtuse and then come back with this?
Gattis has the 4th highest OPS of any regular type player on our team, and is percentage points behind Mac for third. If he's posting an .840+ OPS all year I could give a rats arse what his OBP is. He's also one of the few players on our team that can seem to actually hit with people on base.

BeatBammer is acting like Gattis has nothing to work on. Like he is some god. He isn't. There are holes in his game. He is Kit Hinson. I'd complain about the strike outs but when you have BJ, Justin, Juan, and Uggla a bunch of other high volume K guys. The option that he goes down is still a likely one considering the alternatives.
Fun fact: Uggla has more strike outs than any pitcher has K's

Gattis has great power. We all know that. He also has a K rate around 25% and a walk rate around 6%. He's very valuable bat off the bench. The argument is that it would be best long term for the organization to send him to AAA. You don't have to have the best 25 people on the MLB roster at all times. It's a long season. He had a .738 OPS in the last 4 weeks coming into today and a .256 OBP against right handers this year before today

Yeah, but you want to win now with the team we have in place. A bat like Gattis off the bench can be the difference in a wildcard berth and division title. A player like him becomes even more important in the current playoff situation.
He's going to be extremely valuable to the team the rest of the way out, and can't really afford to not have him until September.

Who do you suggest goes? We can't keep a 6 man pen all year.

You mean the guy with a better OPS and OPS+ than Gattis?
Posted on 5/18/13 at 10:11 pm to lsu31always
I can't dignify that with a response.

No, what I'm talking about and what I have been talking about all this time is that having him on the major league team MAKES THE MAJOR LEAGUE TEAM BETTER.
I don't give a single shite about Gwinnett. I want the ATLANTA Braves to fricking win. And IMO (and also as has been proven so far this year) having Gattis on the major league roster makes the major league team BETTER.
You can come back with whatever fricking side arguments and distractions that you want, you can't make a logical argument against THAT.

Are you saying that we want Gattis to go down because we want Gwinnett to be better?

Let's face it. Its going to be tough to find him abs moving forward. Getting him 5 abs a week isn't going to cut it. I'd much rather send him down now get him the consistent abs than have him not get any. I don't want him to become eric hinske. Rookie of the year just to fade into the abyss of a bench player.

Just rewatching some of the highlights, Gattis is as quick through the zone as I've seen in recent memory. I think once he is able to handle that breaking ball away from him, we have a guy that's going to also hit for a high average. When all is said and done, wouldn't surprise me for him to have a career average north of .280
