Just rewatching some of the highlights, Gattis is as quick through the zone as I've seen in recent memory. I think once he is able to handle that breaking ball away from him, we have a guy that's going to also hit for a high average. When all is said and done, wouldn't surprise me for him to have a career average north of .280
Yeah, the main things he needs to work on are not chasing the high stuff and laying off the outside breaking stuff a bit. But most of the time he has good at bats even when he gets out or strikes out. He's been the king of hitting balls that just barely miss HRs and go foul, then striking out.
My main issue with what Whitie and 31 are saying is I just don't see him learning much down in AAA. His approach is more than solid and has very holes. He has a short, compact swing with huge power. I don't see him fixing the small holes he does have against AAA pitching.
I'd hate to see us lose Schafer as he is doing much better this year and gives us some interesting options with his speed off the bench. It's a tough decision as to who to bump.

I'm ashamed to say I was at the game and too drunk to remember any of it.

It's about getting ab's. You don't think pro far would make the rangers better? Baseball development is about getting consistent playing time. I only see him getting about 5-8 ab's a week the rest of the way. That doesn't cut it. And the argument is that you can correct the sending gattis down, you most likely cannot correct dfa'ing schafer

I think we should keep Gattis but you just said the only point that matters. We can always recall Gattis, and cant do that with Schafer.
