Can we talk about how the schedule effs us every year to start the season?

I know we request to be on the road, but this year we open at potentially the two best teams in the league right out of spring training.

We have not been good, no doubt, but like LSU football and their season openers lately, we always start behind the 8 ball.

Nah that’s such a lame excuse, especially for professional sports

Schwellenbach is the best pitcher on a team that also has Chris Sale and Spencer Strider.

My hot take is that Strider is miles behind Schwellenbach in terms of everything except for the fastball.

Schwelly is the most advanced pitching prospect we’ve had in ages

That isn't a hot take at all, and it also isn't a knock on Strider at all.

Injury may have helped make Strider a better pitcher and not just a thrower. I know it was AAA but he was dominant tonight. Lots of off speed pitches.

This has been a very cathartic inning

Bummer just isn’t a good pitcher now, and I don’t think he ever will be. I hope I’m wrong, but I doubt it.

I remember last year there were about a dozen times I thought we were back.
Fingers crossed.

I know this isn’t really an excuse but one of the Atlanta radio stations had reporters embedded in the team from day one of spring training until the end of the west coast road trip and they said the schedule was brutal leaving directly from Florida to California for a 7 game trip was difficult. Not using this as an excuse for 7 straight losses but I think it played a toll on the team to have to start the season this way

Last night was a perfect example. We looked like champs last night against Miami

They didn't do this. They went to Arizona to play two exhibition games against the Cubs on Monday and Tuesday, traveled to San Diego on Wednesday, and had opening day Thursday. That trip to Arizona was supposed to mitigate any potential jet lag issues.

Ok well it was still a difficult trip from Florida to Arizona to California after living in a suitcase for almost three straight months

I don't think it's outlandish to say he might be the best pitcher in the league already. I'm not sure if I have ever seen a young pitcher with six above average (at worst) pitches and the command to locate any of them at any time. George Kirby might be the only pitcher in the league who has Schwellenbach's command.

The Marlins didn't have a single barrel against him all night. That is amazing.
