Pitchers in this game should just live 5 inches off the plate. That is right in the ump’s wheelhouse.

I don't care what his stats are. There isn't a scarier opposing hitter in baseball than Soto.

Dude loves to walk. I’ll give him that.

Huge double play
To say the least. Cleared Boegarts, Soto, and Machado too.

Obviously Max back tonight but missing two big parts of the lineup still in TDA and Mike. Two big bullpen pieces and possibly another arm in Sororka, even if we were to put him in the pen with as well as Elder has done. Hell of a first month so far.

Agreed on all fronts.
Very curious in what happens with Soroka. Interested to see if he can go 5 or maybe 6 innings in his start with Gwinnett tomorrow. His stuff has looked fantastic thus far. Usually this stuff works itself out whether someone falls off or there is an injury, but assuming Fried, Strider and Wright are themselves the rest of the season and Elder continues to pitch like a 2 or 3 in the rotation, do we have the balls to swap Soroka for Morton?
I really believe a healthy Soroka makes us a World Series favorite.

Per DOB, Iglesias threw a bullpen session today and felt great.

Bill Miller misses a lot of pitches. The second strike called on Kim's last AB was brutal

Good solid win last night. 7 in a row.
Like you said, things have a way of working themselves out.
I am hoping - we get Harris and Travis back soon. At that point, I can see us cutting bait on Ozuna.
At least I hope we move on from him. He offers nothing and at least several of our options can play D and run a little bit.

He was bad, but I guess at least he was consistently bad. Moylan mentioned this during the broadcast. The players obviously want accuracy, but they really want consistency from the home plate umpire more than anything else.

Doesn't really matter for DH. I still think Ozuna is a better DH option than White, Pillar and Adrianza.

According to Ump Scorecard (don't really know how reliable it is itself, but I like to use it anyway), he was actually a little MORE accurate than average and a little LESS consistent than average, which is kind of surprising to me just watching the game. I would have guessed he was LESS accurate than average but at least pretty consistent.
Anyway, what I thought was his main issue (big strike zone and calling quite a few balls strikes) looks to be true. 1 of 96 called balls were true strikes (99% - pretty freaking good because he was calling everything close a strike). But 8 of 53 called strikes were true balls (85% accuracy - not very good because, again, he was calling everything close a strike).
They also have SD at +0.37 runs based on way home plate ump called the game.

I get a kick out of some the "Estimated Ump Zones" that Ump Scorecard spits out. Check out this EUZ from Cubs Dodgers game on Saturday. Pitch right down the middle was apparently not in this ump's EUZ.
