Pulled Fried because he had Martin for Goldy/ Ozuna/Molina
If he had known Martin wasn’t going to be available I think he leaves Fried in there without a doubt. Jackson obviously shouldn’t be used in super high leverage situations if avoidable.
The game was overmanaged a little bit but if Martin can pitch the 8th it all works out pretty flawlessly imo. I do think Martin and Greene’s innings probably should have been reversed in the plan but even as a Snit hater he did almost everything I was saying I would do in real time.
O’Day got Goldy in a big spot (his only job)
Greene got through the heart of their order
Fried looked very good in the 7th
Martin was ready to face the heart of the order in the 8th, setting up Melancon for the 9th.
I thought the most egregious mistake was how long he stuck with Melancon in the 9th once it was obvious he wasn’t missing any bats.

Keuchel needed to come out. He had baserunners all night and it was a minor miracle he survived just giving up one.
We won’t know what would’ve happened if he stayed in, but he had two outs and has been in this situation before. It wasn’t his best performance, but it would’ve been nice to see if he could’ve ended it.

This is indefensible. Snit should be getting raked over the coals in a big way for this one.
Yeah this one is chapping my arse. Leave him in. 9 of 14 of his pitches were strikes. It was a poorly managed pitching staff all night.

I don’t think you can say that in the moment. That’s only hindsight. Keuchel danced around trouble all day and up until the 8th inning the bullpen was fantastic.
Pulling Fried was the right thing to do no matter how good he looked. We went out and got Martin and Melancon for a reason. Just so happens Melancon pooped the bed last night.

You're saying all of this with the benefit of hindsight. If Martin doesn't get hurt, he goes the whole 8th, then Melancon in the 9th.
Martin getting hurt changed everything. I don't expect Snit to manage while predicting when injuries will derail the plan.

I agree with that 100%. His attitude drives everything that makes him great and lovable by the fans. You can't have it both ways and hate him for the same thing when it ends up bad.
In general I agree, but asking a kid who should be maturing (and probably is) to stop ball watching when they're not moonshots isn't a huge ask

Well hopefully Folty and Julio can right the ship tonight.

I think they do. I think tonight we “get to” Flaherty. Over the last 2 years we’ve failed we’ll against aces of other staffs. Flaherty gets 6IP but gives up 3-4. I think we work the counts deep. Last night we worked the counts well I thought but shite would swing at an awful 3-1/2-0 pitch and pop it up.

I agree with that but I think that was very far down the list of reasons for the loss.
Acuña looked as locked in at the plate last night as I’ve maybe ever seen him. Hard for me to blame him for the outcome at all when he had 5 great ABs and a run saving catch with 32% catch probability.

I think 3-4 runs is asking a lot but we have to get him out of the game after 6 with a chance to win. That’s my goal.

I agree, but I don't think that's what happened. That ball looked off the bat like it was either foul or caught. It just kept carrying. He didn't think that was a HR.
He had an incredible game, and I really hope all of this doesn't get in his head like the benching did earlier. We don't need him to slump right now.

According to MLB rules, the #Braves couldn’t use Chris Martin until a potential World Series. He would be unavailable to them in the NLCS, if they were to advance.

Yeah but it's not just the pitching. I understand the reasoning behind pulling McCann, but having Cervelli hit twice in crucial innings is just too cute IMO.

You want flowers to go in? Or PH for cervelli and then the pitcher?

I don't get the rule, but whatever.

In other news, John Heyman is going full sjw tool

Fun atmosphere in Atlanta, very fun team. Love the battery, too. But it’s 2019. Time for the tomahawk chop to go.

They do this so pitchers can’t fake injuries and get replaced by fresh arms late in a series and then make a miraculous recovery to get back for the next series.

They don't want teams to manipulate having a "set" roster for a series only to strategically have an "injury" (fake) replacement in order to unfairly make roster moves within a series. So to discourage that they make the "injured" guy unavailable for the next series as well. When it's a real injury I agree it seems like a stupid rule but I get why they have it.

No, I get the reasoning, but they could easily evaluate this on a case by case basis. Have a neutral doctor examine them or something.

Bowman is hinting Fried is going to be working more innings out of the bullpen and Julio might start Game 4 if there is one.
Wow, the Martin injury is turning out to be very significant.

I don't think you can assume he gets doubled off at third. He would be closer to the bag and have a better view of the ball. Plus having a runner at third changes the pitch sequence.
It's really not even about the possibility of losing a run. It's just not a winning mindset. There are plenty of players who are able to have fun and hustle at the same time. Saying it's an "either or" situation is just making excuses for the kid.
But it's definitely not why we lost. Need Folty to sack up. Scared the weather is going to frick with him tho.
