Why are people freaking over a 1 year, 1.5 M flier on high risk/high reward player?

I like it.

Because a lot of people are never happy unless they're always miserable.

I like this move. If he works out, you have deeper bench depth. If not, you're out 1.5MIL. it's a drop in a bucket

The Ian Anderson era is over. Dealt to the Angels for Jose Suarez.

And that means AJSS is officially the 5th starter.

And well-deserved.

We only do deals with Anaheim now

Also, Suarez is a legitimate shitbag of a pitcher. It's a shame that Ian's career went so far sideways that we can only get something so bad in return.

Riley, Albies, Lee and now Jesse I guess are all that's left of the World Series roster.

I’m concerned about the depth of the starting pitching.
1-5
Sale
Strider
López
Schwellenbach
Smith-Shawver - who seems to be doing better this Spring, but has yet to have that ‘breakout’ season.

Beyond that it is bleak. Holmes, aka Great Value Kenny Powers, is probably the one that will fill in until Strider gets back. We know someone will go down over the course of the season. I don’t remember when they didn’t lose someone, and we will be watching any number of the AAAA/AAA pitchers again.

Can someone explain to me why they didn’t get at least a middling starting pitcher during the offseason to offset losing Morton/Fried? I understand that Strider will be back this season, but what happens if he suffers a setback? Sale had an otherworldly year last year, but he is getting older. López ran out of gas towards the end of the season last year. Why not pick up someone who could give at least a 50/50 chance to win a game? It’s like continuing to drive on a spare tire when you have three other bald tires. I don’t get it.

The top-4 is as good a top-4 as any in baseball granted health of course.

Because the free agent market for a 4/5/6 starter is made up of a bunch of guys you'd rather not have. You don't preemptively sign a starting pitcher to a MLB contract that may or not be in your rotation.

My biggest pitching concern is who in the pen is bridging games from the starter to Iglesias.

I think Bummer is going to take a big step forward and might be the best reliever on the team at the end of the season.
