This is yet another frustrating offseason. I get it, but the shite gets old.
I still remember when they announced that Maddox was coming to the Braves; same for McGriff. It feels like a really long time since there was an exciting signing like those.

Jim Bowden has us listed as one of his "losers" of the offseason

6. Atlanta Braves
The Braves lost Fried and Charlie Morton in free agency, depleting their starting rotation of talent, experience and depth. They announced that Spencer Strider, who is recovering from internal-brace elbow surgery, won’t be ready for Opening Day. They haven’t been able to upgrade at shortstop or in left field.
While the Phillies and Mets were getting better, the Braves were treading water — at best. The offseason isn’t over, but so far it’s been the most disappointing winter in the Atlanta tenure of Alex Anthopoulos, one of the best — and most aggressive — executives in the game.

Ever since the BJ Upton debacle and subsequent rebuild, the organization has psy-opped the fan base at large to think that all big FA signings are bad... it's been weird.

We kinda botched this.
Kinda? It’s a major botch. Too much money in relievers and believing Kelenic and Arcia were everyday players.

Tanner Scott off the board. AA running out of impact players to sign.

It's clear we were never in the market for "impact players", a lot of these deals these guys are getting are short-term and very affordable.

Guy on Twitter who supposedly has inside sources has been saying Scott was a done deal to the Braves. Now seeing several accounts saying it was a done deal until the last minute when he suddenly signed with the Dodgers.
Still not sold on a cap. But I really think MLB needs to do something about deferments on the next CBA. And possibly an international draft.

I disagree completely.
If you want to be good, spend money, especially if you continue to raise ticket prices each year.

They have no choice at this point but to do something about deferments. Dodgers have found a way to completely obliterate competitive balance.

You really think every team could spend $1 billion every off-season like the Dodgers?
And I’m not saying to make it illegal. I’m saying it should count toward their luxury tax now.

I don't think we should penalize teams who try to put the best product on the field in an entertainment business.
I think teams like the A's, Marlins, Rockies, etc. should be penalized for not spending before the Dodgers are penalized for spending.

As do I, but I doubt the owners will go for that.

Of course they won't, but they will raise the ticket prices.

Yes, players salaries raise every year too

He'll find us another AAAA player soon enough.

So I'm guessing you want to get rid of the CBT tax entirely. And that's fair.
But as long as it's there, the loopholes should be closed.

I’ve never seen a team go all-in to the degree the Dodgers are. MLB is cooked.

Yeah, it's rather impressive. Hopefully it blows up in their face. Gonna be hard to compete in 5 years when those deferments are coming due.

The Braves are fine, You guys sound like a bunch of teenage girls. Sure, the Dodgers are head and shoulders above today. H9w often does that translate to a title? 2 out of 5?
But comparatively to everyone else, the Braves standing pat is fine. It’s not like anyone else has stepped past them. The Mets signed Soto but will lose Alonso. The Phillies have stood pat. The Giants made a few moves so maybe they can wrestle a wild card slot but doubtful.
The Braves enter the season like everyone else outside the Dodgers with a lot of question marks and hoping that rehabs go ok and that injuries leave us alone. And we have plenty of room to make in season adjustments. But the bottom line is who will be healthy and get pitching in October. That’s all that matters. Whether Arcia or Kelenic are the starters on opening day means very little.
