just curious of your approximate age. I had several great matches vs. Kennedy "KC" Fontenot from Basile in 1984-86. South Cameron, Johnson Bayou, and Hackberry always had solid wrestlers back in the day. Sucks my HS no longer has a wrestling program as I still follow the sport.

I’m of a younger generation, but I know of him. Our school has a pretty storied history, beginning with Jimmy Vidrine, the first and only 5-time state champion in LA history in the 60s.
When I was in high school, South Cameron had 4 wrestlers on the team and all 4 made the state finals. Dudes from down there are historically tough as nails.

Everything has to be so dramatic with Ray Lewis. Like he’s giving the Sermon on the Mount or something every time he speaks. Such a disingenuous POS.

So question… someone might know
How many individual state champions is Holy Cross up to all-time? I know they had the national record as of like 2018, well over 200

256 and counting, .... ..... 213 State Runner-ups. Based on the math, 469 HC wrestlers made it to the Championship match.
FWIW - Jesuit numbers: 186 State Champions, 187 State runner-ups

Brusly always had a great wrestling program. They have 2 wrestlers that won State 4x's - amazing feat. Alan Prejean wrestled at 105-112 lbs and won State 2x's in 1987 and 1988
my friend, former HS wrestler, and coach helped create this Louisiana Wrestling Archives website - great resource to reflect on the past

It's not the Lee High Invitational without the Bill "The Boff" Boffinger.

Bof is still around. Truly a legend. Great coach and person.

The SEC really needs to figure out a way to add wrestling. Mizzou and OU already have wrestling teams.
There is decent HS wrestling in Georgia, Louisiana and parts of Texas.

LSU had an awesome team, no thanks to Title IX.

I know it isn't NCAA D1 stuff, at least not yet, but there has been an influx of NCWA club teams in the state. Most of the bigger universities in the state have NCWA teams. They travel to compete and and, in some tournaments, compete against NCAA and NAIA schools. There is a tournament next week at UT in Austin. NCWA nationals are in Bossier in March.
At least two of these club teams are attempting to work with university administrators in hopes of becoming full blown athletic programs. Maybe there's hope...
