To put more context on to this, from what I have read the mortality rate of those two flus listed above was somewhere between .1% - .5%
.5% is where the experts are saying covid-19 is as well

Can you link that? I know it was estimated at 3.4 but that was a few weeks ago. The estimate from the start was it will be around 2%.

That will be actual case fatality rate. It will take this pandemic being over and them "estimating" how many people had it and werent texted etc etc to determine what they think was the actual mortality rate

Right now that is completely up in the air (0.1%-2.4%), But if you listen to Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx, they have it well under 1%

1-200k deaths, with several millions of cases....

Haven't seen this or heard this. I just saw were he did say the 100k-200k. Why I was asking for a link.

The only way I see them being able to play:

-cancel all OOC games

-cancel all bowl games except the playoff

-make a 1 year exception for an 8 or 16 team playoff

-push back conference schedule into December & play all games in consecutive weeks leading up until playoff. No bye weeks

LSU’s schedule could look something like this.

Aug 24 (1st day of school) would start a condensed 5week conditioning program leading up to...

Oct 1st preseason practice

Oct 31 OM
Nov 7 FL
Nov 14 Ark
Nov 21 Miss St
Nov 28 Bama
Dec 5 SC
Dec 12 Aub
Dec 19 A&M

Dec 26th conf championship games
January 2nd Semi playoff
January 11th CFB champ

If you go to 8 or 16, you push these down into late January

Those are within the upper worst case range of this pandemic, and we are shutting everything down

And the world was very different in 1957 and 68. We are way more globally connected. There was basically zero travel to China, the USSR or half of Europe. Jet travel officially started in the 50's, so was still in its infancy. It was far less common and way more expensive (relative to the time). The population was also smaller and less densely packed. One thing we did have like today was a vaccine for the flu which doesn't exist for COVID-19.

There may be a better way to contain this virus, like testing everyone, than shutting down the world, which is not sustainable but it appears to more contagious and deadly than the typical "flu".

i got the 1957.
a doozy.

The 1957 flu pandemic was caused by influenza H2N2 virus, to which few people had previous exposure. A vaccine was rapidly developed against H2N2, though later assessment showed that more vaccine than usual was needed to produce immunity.

bolded part suggests that even if you had shot you got it anyway.

none of us got the shot.

I think that illustrates another important point, which is how much more advanced medical technology is now than in 1957. A nasty strain like that today, probably would not have be as deadly was it was in 1957. I get people are frustrated (im super depressed about the NCAA tournament, i don't even want to think about no football) but this really isn't comparable to past outbreaks for a lot of reasons. Looking at the overall numbers isn't usefully.

It’s about April 1st now and we can’t leave our house. You think In 5 months we’ll be able to sit in a 80k seat stadium on top of each other

What does this have to do with anything? Just because it hasn't happened doesn't mean it can't happen. When something happened in the past, at some point it had to be the first time it happened. So what's your point?
