Peej, I'm not sure how much a wayward pecker had on his golf game. I think dumping Butch Harmon and switching from Titlest to Nike might have had more of an impact.
Except for the dominant summer of 2000, Tiger was every bit as dominant under Haney as he was with Butch. And the switch from Titleist to Nike happened at the end of 2002.
I think his injuries had a huge impact on his dominance, but his biggest problem is his mental game. Also, he's a single father now. He's made it quite clear that his kids are very important to him, so that quite likely has had an affect on his practicing.
And even if none of the injuries or mental issues had happened , Tiger wasn't going to be dominant forever. Maybe since he's played a full season injury free for the first time in 3 years, he realizes how much better he had to be, and he works his arse off and cones out in fire next spring. Or maybe he's really done. Likely, it'll be somewhere in between. I still wouldn't bet against Tiger winning another major at some point.

Rory drains a 20 footer for birdie on 18, wins by 8. New record for margin of victory.

Holy crap! What a putt! Rory wins by 8.

Incredible performance. Rory is going to be special for a long while.

Great to see Rory get another major.

Congrats to Rory
He is the best in the world right now.
Hopefully he will do us all a favor and continue playing like this full time.

I think he just big leagued GMac.
Really he just didn't see him, but funny all the same.

quote:Well yeah Tiger is the greatest. It's way too early to start stacking Rory up against him. But Rory's career is off to a fantastic start. He definitely looks like the heir to Tiger's throne that we have been waiting on.
But then Tiger went on a fricking tear after that 99 PGA. Not realistic to replicate that.

I love Rory but I don't understand why he never got any hate for sucking for those 5 months after he was suppose to dominate. Others golfers would have gotten burned in the media.

seriously. I hope Rory gets to that point I really do but this is ridiculous. Last time everyone started this we all know what happened.

He won 8 with Butch and 6 with Haney.
Even when he switched to Nike he still had Titlest wedges and a Scotty Cameron putter in the bag.

I mean, other than the fact that he has something in his mind that is telling him he isn't using Titlest clubs anymore, I don't think it is a big deal.
He has shown he can putt very well with the method, just very streaky. I also think that has to do with his swing changes creeping into his putting motion. He has said several times this year he has to fix posture, alignment, etc.
I think a full off season knowing that his swing is finally intact and he can work on his short game will be telling.

Cause he didn't suck for 5 months. From October of last year through February of this year he had 10 or 11 straight top 10 finishes. He became the #1 ranked player in the world. He won a tournament before the Masters (Tiger finished 2nd in that one). Then, after reaching #1 again, Luke Donald stole it for 2 weeks, Rory didn't play well. Not playing well for 3 months, at 23 years of age, after reaching #1 in the world is not worthy of being blasted by the media. If the media was blasting him, they would have been proven stupid by his play the last two weeks.
I kept reminding people that Tiger went about 7 majors between his first and second majors. Rory just went 5.

Swing change, yo.
ETA: Still, it wasn't that he wasn't winning, he wasn't even really contending, he missed what 3 straight cuts? That is rather alarming, no matter who you are
ETA2: I want a god damn Tiger and Rory final pairing in the Masters next year, how can we get the bat signal out to Tiger to make this happen?

I'm a firm believer in not trying to fix something that ain't broke.
As I've said numerous times, he may win the occasional Tour event, but I think he will finish with 14 majors. I hope I'm wrong, because I've been following him for 20+ years and saw him revolutionize the game at the Tour level.

I agree, but Tiger knows his game better than anyone else, and the newest swing change was definitely to extend is career. I can't blame him too much for that.
As far as the equipment changes? I would imagine Nike provides him with stuff with pretty close to exact specs as his old stuff, or he wouldn't have switched.

This is a real possibility, judging by recent weekend performances. If he goes another full year of being in the lead going into the weekend and not being able to close out a major, I'll be much more inclined to think that he won't ever win another.
At this juncture I don't think anyone can accurately predict what he will do next year. Hell some people thought he'd never even win another tourney a year or 2 ago.

I know, swing changes
Yes, Rors missed cuts were alarming, but not worthy of being torched by the media. That should be saved for the Sergio's, Donald's, and Westwood's that continually choke in the majors.
