Course is playing too easy, but the winning score at the open has been pretty dang low most of the time over the last 10-15 years. This really isn’t too much of an anomaly.

Links golf just sucks.

I’m kinda tired of it being blamed just on Mother Nature. Yes that has played a huge part, but the R&A has chosen in the weeks up to water the hell out of the greens and keep them soft while not watering the rough and letting it die out and get thin They played a huge part in this as well

Greens are a little soft, but not anything out of the ordinary. Lack of wind is allowing these guys to hit a bunch of drivers and hit wedges into greens rather than 6 and 7 irons.

Maybe it’s just my old brain but I don’t remember balls usually spinning back on Open greens

Yeah the R&A has to take at least some responsibility for this. They know that course and the local weather very well and they dropped the ball. The only penalties out there are bunkers (which don’t seem to be much of a factor) or the deepest of rough if you hit it WAY off the fairway.

The course is pretty and it would probably be great with the usual expected wind and rain, but now it’s playing like a shitty, treeless muni where you can hit it anywhere you want and still have clear approach shots from the neighboring fairways.

These commentators need to dial back the enthusiasm over the ‘records’. It’s becoming commonplace this weekend. There may be 2-3 more 62’s this on top of the 3 we already have.

62 definitely has lost its luster when it’s mostly been guys doing it on a par-70 course, a lot of times in the UK. And I agree this course is a problem.

Johnny Miller will always be the king of the low round to me, even if he is a douche about it. 63 at Oakmont is insanity.

First time I’ve seen a red flag at the Open so far this year.

NLU Twitter Post on Greens

NLU guys have some decent discourse on the greens. They are measured at 0.379” of firmness, which puts them in the “firm” category.

I literally think they are just bombing the course and hitting sand wedge into the green. Fairways are also so firm that they are rolling irons out to 300yds. The lack of spin we usually see is likely because they are still hitting long and mid irons into the green.

The cut here in 2008 was +11. How sick is that?

Amazing what terrible weather will do.

Huh? Was he not just barely off the fairway? Or was that his second shot off the tee?

They literally said it was out of bounds when he hit it. Then they showed it. Do you want a text message too?

WTF man.

Tommy winning would be the only thing to make this tournament really special

I watched it happen. That’s why I mentioned the red flag.

Was 100% on tv.
