I think to be fair, the USGA didn't account for how fickle Southern California weather can be w/the marine layer in the morning then full sun in the afternoon.
That's in my family's stomping grounds. We are from 30 miles north of Pittsburgh and Oakmont is literally 15 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh.

Uhm, is the 72nd hole going to have guys blinded by the setting sun?
Posted on 6/16/23 at 9:46 pm to ReauxlTide222
Apparently cause the Sun doesn’t really set in that much of a different spot day to day.

I like the course a lot. I’m excited for Sunday and high pressure golf at this layout.
But everything considered, it isn’t hosting a good US Open.

I live about any hour and a half west in OH. Oakmont is a beautiful piece of property. That part of PA reminds me of N Alabama and Middle Tennessee.

+2 to make the cut, half the field under par going into the weekend?
For a "toughest test in golf" US Open?
Jack's Memorial Tournament every year is hands down better than this shitshow. Nobody's even thinking double digits under par to win that one.
Looks more like the GGO, John Deere Classic, etc...

Anything can happen between now and Sunday, but other than the bunkering this course doesn’t have a ton of of character to me. It’s a shame that Bandon Dunes does not have the infrastructure to host one of these on the West Coast.

Yep. It's all in the same topographical region (the Appalachian/Cumberland Plateau). Extreme NW GA and SE KY are also in that same region.
Western PA is beautiful. I miss it dearly. Was up home in March and I'll be back for Xmas.

This course is set up for Rory to win. I know the PGA Tour doesn’t have a say so in the majors, but don’t think for a second that Jay doesn’t have his hand in this trying to help Rory succeed. This isn’t Augusta National, if anything this is where Jay can have his hand in something, especially the USGA. It’s the least they could do for his poster boy since he failed so miserably at the Masters and never really competed in the PGA Championship.

All you people bagging this course— this is one of the best and most exclusive golf courses ON PLANET EARTH.
When these pros get soft greens and no wind- they are going to blitz wherever they are playing.
Most of the scores were around par yesterday. I didn’t see anyone take it deeper than -3.
Justin Thomas shot 81.
Can’t control Mother Nature. ( i.e. Round 1)
You people saying this course has no character… I can’t put into words how truly stupid you sound.

Who cares that it’s “exclusive”?
Pebble Beach can be played by anyone with enough money. Yet it’s an awesome US Open venue.

It’s a fine course but the setup with fairways this wide trying to make it a second shot course was never going to produce a typical US Open. It’s amazing Fowler is in the lead primarily thanks to a hot as hell putter. Over the next two rounds players like Rory and DJ could move ahead cause it is setup for bombers that can hit wedges and short irons a mile high into the greens. After the first round the USGA is gonna back the tees up and hide the pins which again favors bombers. They will use this to roll, the ball back when a tree lined course with 1980s US Open fairway lines and rough would do,the job.

Yeah pretty much every part of his game has been on point these first 2 days. It’s awesome to see him playing so well. Rooting for him or Rory this weekend.

No it’s the putter, a bunch of guys on the board hitting it as good as Rick but when you make every putt from 15ft and in that has a bigger impact on your score.

I’m convinced Todd Lewis has a medical issue affecting his speech. He has spells where he can barely get words out.
