I would have played for 4th down there. If you're down one on your side of the field then a field goal doesn't kill you and even with a touchdown it's technically a one possession game. Either way the other team won't be able to milk the whole clock if they get the ball at your 30-35. If you punt you risk not getting the ball back at all or getting it back without enough time to do anything.
