seen. Not only was it wrong, the ump waited till the play was over to call it.

Then we disagree.
I wonder why it took him 5 seconds to decide he thought he saw a balk.

It's funny because he put "Siss" where "Miss" should go, implying that they're sissies!

Yeah I'm not usually one to get riled up by the umps because I think it makes people look like bitches but I was completely dumbfounded by that call.

Did anyone ever question the guy and try to get some sort of answer out of him? It might have been the worst baseball call I've ever seen. Is it even legal to call a balk without calling the ball dead first? The bastard let the whole play go on.

Why?

I don't understand this mentality. People pay hundreds of dollars sometimes thousands for seats, people bet heavily on the outcome, and people want to see their teams win.

To expect proper officiating with the correct call doesn't seem much to ask for on a billion dollar industry.

They might as well had Troy Landry from Swamp People umpiring 1st base.

When I saw that, I thought there was no way whatsoever that was a balk. I think the ump was wrong, but not only that, he took like 5 seconds too long to call it.

the balk was called after the pitch because the team can choose to take the result of the play. For instance had he hit a single, they could have chosen to take the single and the result of the play. But because he got out, there was another chance.

the balk itself was borderline, but i could see it going either way. He was pretty quick to the plate.

Why as espn showing replays in slow motion? If any call should be observed in real time it is a ball call.

This. Whatever the merits of the balk call, play should have continued as it did.

I don't think this is correct. Any umps out there?? I've never seen this called in a college game. I didn't think it was a balk in the first place.

If this is true, then I stand corrected regarding the delay. Every balk I have ever seen, the ump has called it before the ball ever reached the catcher/

because most balk calls are in the process of throwing to a bag; not a pitch. Look it up. Ive seen it before.
