And DLS took a big fat L when they came to Texas as the #1 team in the nation this year. To a team that went out in round 1 of the Texas playoffs.

Coppell is definitely a powerhouse program. They just have be misfortune of meeting SLC, Desoto, Trinity or Allen in round 1 or 2 every year.

Last season coppell had the best o line I've ever seen. Smallest of the 5 was 6'4 280. They beat us 60-14 and on their first play their fullback hit our olb so hard he went flying 5 yards backward and knocked down our safety who was coming to fill. It was awesome

Doesn't Katy have a monster stadium also?

Football. No. They have an old arse stadium shared by like 8 schools.

I believe they are getting another one though like Cy Fair has.

They have a nice stadium for basketball built about 10 years ago.

How the hell has that S.F. football field not been turned into multi-million dollar condos?

ISD are completely free of government interference correct? Other than the State Board of Education? The mayor or whomever can not set any type of limits on the district?

The state legislature set a limit on how high the property tax rate could be without an election ($1.50 per $100 valuation, I think). Then there's a limit on how high they can go even with an election.

That's the crux of the school funding lawsuit embroiling Texas districts and the state right now: while the state constitution outlaws a state property tax, districts are claiming that setting caps on how high districts can raise taxes is a variation of imposing a state property tax.

There's no river crossing from Louisiana into Waskom.

Probably Tenaha, Deweyville or even (less likely) Orange.

I don't know about that. Waskom had some athletes that could cover Canadian's wide receivers. Not sure if Canadian could stop Waskoms offense.

If you are traveling West from Shreveport on I-20 you go right past Waskom. Waskom is on the North side of I-20 right on the interstate. Tenaha and Deweyville are farther West in Texas from Louisiana

They are definitely a lot higher, but you get what you pay for. I'm zoned into Plano schools, but live in Allen. (Don't ask me why. I have no clue). My taxes reflect Allen ISD. Mine are 7,000 a year but you can live in decent areas in Plano or Allen and have normal taxes around 4,000 so it's not too high everywhere. Granted, the elementary schools zoned there typically aren't as good, but middle school is a when that truly starts to matter. My friend in Benton, La pays something ridiculous like 700 a year. Drive through Benton and you can tell why.

Well, I guess it's all how you look at it. If I paid state income tax in Louisiana, the state income tax would be approximate 1 1/2 times the amount I paid last year for property taxes. So, although I have to pay that lump sum at year end, I'd rather do that than have 6% of my paycheck taken every pay period.

So, we may have

but we also have ZERO state income tax.

Probably thinking of the new stadium outside of Beaumont along I-10.

Katy is getting a new stadium. These complexes are usually built and shared by the entire ISD in Texas.

I live in Frisco, there are dedicated sports training facilities.

Most schools are less than 10 years old, immaculate sports complexes.

Plus, Coppell has the money son. It trails Plano and Frisco but its very wealthy.

The "independent" in ISD comes from the fact that they are independent of other local government boundaries. For example, Katy ISD has territory in three different counties in Texas. But all three counties have other ISDs as well. Harris County has a couple dozen ISD's that include at least a piece of the county.

There is a state board of education, which sets some high level standards and certifies the ISDs (If an ISD sucks, they can kill it off and allocate the land and building to other ISDs). There are also regional educational council which are tax-provided entities but they tend to be more of a support role. Most of the ISDs are very small so they use the regional councils for things like logistics help, training, etc.

Most of the ISDs have one high school.
