And maybe not Nebraska either. That delusional fanbase believes they can still contend for National Titles every single year.

OU was UT rival before they were NU. OU needs UT and the state of Texas to survive in football particularly.

OU NU was just a rival due to both being good at times, not like a neighbor rivalry and whose oil and cattle were better.

Actually Oklahoma A&M/oSu was more of a rival than NU was. NU was only for one sport.

Was meant for the Hawkeye not the Ag.

dealing with billionaire/hundred millionaire boosters is actually pretty tough. They aren't always right, but they always think they are and if you disagree with them its really bad for you

Does he have any connection to Louisville or is he just their AD? He's a fantastic AD. Although, I bet Louisville can muster up serious money to keep him. They are far from poor.

No connection, but he's also been here in Louisville for almost 20 years at this point (hired in 97).

All biases aside, I'd be surprised if he left Louisville at this point. Mostly because he's a big ego and he's not going to take shite off Texas boosters.

I wouldn't be opposed to LSU giving Texas some type of financial compensation to take him off our hands.

Just chiming in to say that anyone who thinks UT is concerned at all about "money issues" whether it be cash reserves or whatever, doesn't have a firm grasp of reality. UT, Stanford, Yale and Harvard don't have "money issues". Would they like to avoid paying Charlie Strong a 15 mil buyout? Sure. But if the powers that be thought firing strong after this season was the right move, the 15 mil would not be a concern.

"Hey, Mr. Big Tex, we want to fire coach Strong. It'll cost us 15 mil. Here is our wire number. See you at the suite this fall." Problem solved.

With that said, it's fun to watch them twist in the wind for now.

Some Texas fan smiled somewhere seeing you make that association for them.

It doesn't quite work like that, even with billionaire boosters.

Everybody had a variation of this conversation already a couple of years back when Longhorn conventional wisdom was that Red and pals were just going to write Saban a 20 million per year check.

I was more than happy to jump on that, too, not because I thought it would happen but just to get a rise out of the Tide fans screaming on here at the time.

I've heard they are going to try to bring in Chip Kelly

Why not just show up in Ft Worth in front of Gary Patterson's house with a Brinks truck and make it happen?

from an outsider's perspective, Kelly would be a much bigger/better hire. Patterson is a defensive coach, and while texas has had issues on defense, their offense has been the biggest problem the last 5-6 years. Kelly, along with Briles and Urban, is one of the best offensive minds in college football. I don't doubt that Patterson would be an improvement over Strong, but I think Kelly would be a much better hire.... especially if they are willing to write a blank check.

Would not surprise me if they go after turtleneck Tom. He obviously knows Charlie Strong, so that makes it an easy decision.

This is potentially bad news for Charlie Strong, no? Any new guy coming in didn't have a hand in the hiring process, and can pretty much do what they want

You fire a guy after two seasons without some sort of impropriety or and absolute on field collapse (talking like 1 or 2 win season) and you're not going to get a top flight coach to even look at the job- you might get a second tier guy but no Harbaugh, Saban, Carroll, Kelly type coach is going to leave a great job for one that has 0 stability.
