Quick question for those of you that work with Juniors. Any thoughts on what kind a racquet/stringing a 13 year old girl should start out with? Just seems like there should be a better option out there than just giving her dad's old racquet.

*Anyone know of a used ball machine they don't want anymore?

Going to be interesting to see how mine does. She has stayed so busy with other stuff that we really haven't done much tennis. Great athlete, gymnastics background. And somehow she is going into highschool next year (geez time flys). So my plan is to have her hit a ton of tennis balls this summer, maybe even send her out to Newks for a week at the end of the summer and have her ready for high school tennis next year. The few times I have had her on the court she has shocked me at how quickly she has picked up skills.

Babolat pure drive racket. poly strings are popular right now mainly for spin. based on what you're describing your daughter should be fine to play high school tennis. she may even play varsity as a freshman if she's talented. it may be too late for USTA tournaments. maybe not if she's a really gifted athlete. but most 13 year olds playing even at the sectional level have already spent a couple thousand hours on a tennis court.

eta also spend time on scoring, rules and etiquette.

eta2 unless youre a decent player and can provide instruction you should get her a few lessons so at least she has the correct grips and can learn to use topspin etc

I guess Bencic is back. She beat Sabalenka, Halep, and Svitolina in a row and plays Kvitova in the Dubai final tomorrow.

About 5 years ago I put a used ball machine on sale on craigslist and the responses were so overwhelming I had to re-list it with a heftier price tag.

I think the moral of the story is that a lot of people want them, but don't want to pay the msrp. I'd periodically check craigslist, though. You never know when a bargain might pop up.

Yes, this is who top-tier teets beat in the final of Marseille. Did you want to congratulate him for losing?

Not really... but for someone with his skillset reaching the final was arguably an equal or better achievement.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Shithead get hurt actually.

Not because of you. You get rock hard over anyone under 25 who shows any potential. I can’t tell if it’s some grand plan to take credit for those players in the future or if there’s some other weird reason.

It’s more about everyone else who is already penciling him in to win a whole bunch of slams. We’re talking about a guy who hasn’t accomplished anything. Oh wait. He won a couple 250’s by beating Gulbis and Kukushkin in the finals. Brb... let me go masturbate.

It’s like there’s this big mad race to predict who will be the next great player, so that 15 years down the road a couple idiots can link the prediction and get an e-pat on the back. With so many geniuses out there, it’s unreal that none of them are successful at betting tennis.

ETA: No. I’m not fun at parties.

Yeah, there is definitely a rush to crown young guys as I suspect even Big 3 fanboys deep down know old dudes should not be dominating the tour. I think people are gravitating toward tsetse because they have started to question whether the only other young guy who has accomplished anything (Alex), has major championship mettle. Tsetse has some a-hole in him, which I think people like to see. But, Alex is the much more accomplished player at this point. Funny how baby Djoker (Chung) has kind of disappeared.

I still have some faith the lostgen dudes like Nishi, Cilic, Grigor might have a major or two in them as the Big 3 phase out and the young guns aren't yet ready to dominate.

Thiem seems like a tweener in all of this, but he should win an RG if Rafa ever falls off in the next couple of years.
