Thiem and Shitsy Pants were even money. I meant to post the odds, but then I think I googled "hydie waters interracial foursome" instead and got distracted. Sorry.

I might have been inclined to put a little something on shitsy...but looking like a pretty tight match at present. Probably going to a third.

That's a good job off the top of your head. Berettini is 23, so I guess I'd slot him in there at four or five. I don't think he has the upside of most of them, but he seems like he will be consistent.

JJ with a 2nd challenger win for the year. Moves up into the top 200, and should be enough to get into the Australian Open Qualifying.

Today I learned that Thiem is 26. Holy christ I thought 24 at most.

Assuming you mean currently, I’ll go with...

1. Med
2. Shits
3. Zverev
4. Berrettini
5. De Minaur
6. Shapo
7. Rublev
8. Khachanov
9. Felix

I really don’t understand what happened with Felix. I know it’s common to ascend too rapidly and then fall back a bit, but there was a short time when he looked like the 4th best player in the world. I have to wonder if he just lacks a killer instinct. Or maybe he’s covering up an injury. Then again his last time on court was a 7-6, 7-6 loss to Shithead so maybe there’s nothing wrong at all.

ETA: Guess I’m higher on Demon than most.

Sort of. Everybody is bitching about the new format because bitching is in vogue these days. The old format was trash with each round months apart and stars always sitting out.

I haven’t read about why, but I see Kyrgios didn’t play singles or doubles today and the Aussies lost to Canada. Nice to see France lose. Hopefully England is next.

Pospisil is 3-0 in singles somehow. Watch out for him next year for wagering purposes.

ETA: Kyrgios had a collarbone injury.

So Canada is already in the semis. Here's today's schedule:

1. Serbia vs. Russia
2. England vs. Germany
3. Spain vs. Argentina

#1 is a toss up. Novak will beat Khachanov, but Russia is favored in the other two matches. No Daniil for Russia.

#2 is a decent tie but England has the edge in all 3 matches. Zverev isn't playing.

Spain should cruise to the semis with Rafa and RBA vs. Diego and whoever.

If there's any value I think it lies with Serbia. I feel like they are the only team that can beat Spain. The problem is making it to the final.

Good morning MV, Crack. I’m watching the Kyrgios - Medvedev replay right now. I agree with you Crack about Spain cruising to the semis. For the life of me I can not understand why Medvedev doesn’t volley more? He has the perfect frame, reach, and quickness to get back to the baseline on an overhead lob. That skinny Slav just stays on the baseline although he is a damn good baseline player. I just really believe his game would be greatly enhanced if he’d volley more. If I was at his match it’d be hard for me not to hunt down his coach and tel him.

Good point. I think he will have to come to the net more as he gets older. It's not only the right play, but it also saves your legs. Thiem has been coming forward a lot more lately, and his volleys are much improved.

Spain advanced. For some reason they played Busta #2 singles and he lost, then they put in Rafa for dubs and pulled it out.

Krajinovic got his arse annihilated by Rublev and Serbia lost to Russia. It's been the Rublev/Khachanov show. Not sure I like that your singles players can also play doubles and you basically only need 2 players in a team event.

Semis:
Russia vs. Canada
Spain vs. England

Didn’t realize RBA’s dad died. That’s why he was out for a few days. Good effort to win in straights after something like that.

On the flip side, Felix was kind of thrown into action on the final day vs. a top 10 player. I didn’t see the match but he had 6 DFs. That has been his biggest problem lately.

Rafa vs. Shapo for the title (and a few more $$ in my 5D account).

Canada has the deepest squad imho, but they do not have Rafael Nadal. And this is a consideration.

Canada will surely win it in one or more of the next few years.

Yeah that’s why I thought Serbia had the only shot at beating Spain. That guaranteed win at #1 singles is just too much to overcome.
