Bencic and Andreescu would both be top 5 in the world if real time rankings were a thing

Right now off 5D, reduced juice section:

Sat 3/16 401 Dominic Thiem +155
2:00PM 402 Milos Raonic -165

Sat 3/16 451 Roger Federer -210
4:00PM 452 Rafael Nadal +190

I'm surprised TGGRN is such a big underdog. I logged on to 5D thinking it would be something like Fed-140....and I was gonna bet Fed and be okay if I lost. Now I'm kinda tempted to take Rafa.

Anybody have an opinion on the Thiem/Milos match?

Surely somebody has done this. I've often thought about doing it, but can't block off the time needed to implement something like that. This is exacerbated because I don't know how to scrape websites and I've never done any coding with sql or any database of any kind. So, I'd have to learn a lot.

I don't think doing an algorithm for the ranking would be that hard. There are actually a shipload of peer-reviewed journal articles on tennis statistics. I mean, a focking assload. One could just steal their algorithms and tweak.

Tell me more.

Do you think that might be why the odds are what they are?

Damn I spent about 15 minutes explaining why that line seemed way off. Then I figured out the reason and had to delete it all.

Raonic’s last 3 IW results before this year:
Semifinal
Final
Semifinal

And the losses were to Fed, Novak, and god-mode Delpo.

As much as I would like to take Thiem here, that level of success can’t be overlooked or ignored.

Most sportsbooks have a rule pertaining to retirements that requires 1 full set to be played before a match has action. The Sports Betting Prime platform on 5Dimes has a different rule. There’s action on a retirement that happens at any time.

In certain circumstances, this can be used to your advantage. Rafa vs. Roger tomorrow is one of those cases.

Let’s say you bet $208 on Roger to win $100 on the Prime, and then put $100 on Rafa to win $185 somewhere else. Obviously you could go bigger. I’m just using $100 as a base.

Your absolute worst-case scenario is a Federer retirement in the 1st set. This won’t happen.

The realistic worst-case scenario is that Nadal wins the match and you lose $23. This is looking unlikely.

If Roger wins 1-0, 2-0, or 2-1, you break even.

The final possibility is that Rafa retires in the first set. In that case you would win $100 on Fed and your Rafa bet gets voided, which is exactly what you would want to happen.

This may be all for naught if Rafa can’t even begin the match. Both bets would then be voided.

This is for informational purposes only. NEVER bet on sports.

So, apparently the ATP player's council -- currently headed by Novak Djokovic -- voted to get rid of the current ATP CEO. And the rest of the players are none too pleased about this as they apparently liked the guy, thought he was doing a great job, and expressed concern about the lack of transparency.

Federa and Nadal slam Djokovic-led Council

Smuggy pissed

quote:

There have been previous complaints from Federer and Nadal about not being consulted, to which Djokovic countered, "They could also approach me." But Federer said the Serb turned down a request to meet before the ATP meetings at Indian Wells, where the ATP board voted not to extend Kermode's tenure.

"I tried to meet Novak before the decision," he said. "Unfortunately, he had no time. That's hard for me... to understand. But that is okay. He definitely had a lot to do with the whole story. "I asked if he had time to meet me.... He suggested we meet the next day, but then everything had been decided. We have not met yet, and in the meantime, the tournament has started."

Rafa pissed

quote:

Nadal, who before the tournament had expressed opposition to changing CEOs, also said he had still not had a conversation with any members of the player council, who elect the player reps on the ATP board. "Nobody came to me to explain why this stuff happened," Nadal told press at Indian Wells. "I have my phone with me. So nobody text me to speak about or to ask me about what's my thoughts about that decision.

Stanimal pissed

quote:

Several other players who are not on the council, including Stanislas Wawrinka, have also said they have not received explanations. "So probably the guys who are running the council, they didn't make the right job, because when they are there is they are there representing us, so normally they have to ask what's our opinion," said Nadal. "Not in every small decision, but in big decisions, probably, yes. In my opinion, this one was a big decision."

Rafa and Fed met up over coffee and discussed plans to kick the shite out of Djokovic:

quote:

Federer and Nadal also indicated that they would like a say in where the sport goes next, with Federer having told Tennis Channel that the two had a coffee-meeting at Indian Wells.

"I have to think about whether to get engaged again, for the good of the tour, or whether I should just get involved a little bit not within the politics," said Federer. "I cannot just look away and say I'm not interested. I have to inform myself, and I've done that these few days. I also talked to Rafa. We are on a similar viewpoint, and that is important to him and me."

Nadal agreed that he would still like to be consulted about such issues. "Of course I will be happy to know where the sport is going," he said. Not... for personal interest, but yes, because I really believe that after 18 years, 17 years around this sport probably I have a good perspective of the things that can work well, other things that don't work that well.

"I will be happy to heard why that happened, and of course what's going on now.

Rafa looked really good during points, but was gimping around a bit in between them from what I saw toward the end of the match. I think the line would be close to a pick em but for that.

I didn’t see it. I’m just going off what I’m reading. With RG being the main focus at this point in his career, I can’t see him pushing too hard in situations like this.

Say he fights through the pain and wins today. Then what? You know he won’t give a walkover in a final. It’s just easier to pull the plug now.

On the flip side, it seems like rest isn’t doing him a whole lot of good these days. I just hope he can walk when he’s 40.

Not so subtle brag..about to head to the stadium. Rafa looked good yesterday but seemed to be making a big deal of his knee. Hoping he’ll be ok for the match today.

Got to see him and Fed yesterday, and Novak play doubles, then today’s semis..not bad for first time buying tickets to a tournament

Never count your chickens and always be grateful for anything positive when you go to a tournament. You can tell I've been burned by withdrawals, retirements, and rain in my life. But, for the most part I have had good luck. Just pray that the tennis gods are in a good mood today and Rafa can give somewhere near his best.

Saw this trivia and couldn't believe it till I looked it up: The last time Rafa beat Roger, Djokovic only had 6 of his 15 slams. AO14

Fed kind of needed this 5 match win streak to legitimize his claim to goat status. he's still just 15 - 23 vs Rafa

eta losses to Rafa on clay should come with an asterisk though imo. it's just not a fair fight

I was at IW for the Fed-Rafa QF 2 years ago when Fed was basically god-mode and smoked Rafa in straights. It was honestly one of the worst professional beatdowns I’ve witnessed firsthand, and I’ve been to several tourneys over the years (‘02 and ‘03 Men’s Clay Court in Houston, ‘03 Masters Cup in Houston, ‘15 and ‘17 IW, and ‘18 US Open ??).

Fed’s not at the level he was in ‘17 but if Rafa’s knee is bothering him as bad it seemed in the 2nd set of the Khach match then I have a hard time seeing Rafa sticking with him today.

Hopefully Thiem takes out Milos.
