Actually that's pretty cool. Seeing old stuff like that in color makes it "real"

Several years ago, Murphy said he telephoned ESPN but an associate producer showed little interest.

Murphy also initiated a cordial conversation with the Red Sox, but the team did not request to see the film either.

What the hell were these people thinking?

Yeah, I was thinking that ESPN guy wasn't interested in historic Ted Williams footage because Jemele Hill didn't sign off on it.

And that was advertised as his last game.

Shows you that was when people worked for a living.

Nowadays Wrigley or Fenway is packed on a Wednesday afternoon.

Pretty cool.

Learned something new today from Ted's wiki:

quote:

(Sacrifice flies were counted as at-bats in 1941; under today's rules, Williams would have hit between .411 and .419, based on contemporaneous game accounts.

All of the grainy, black and white videos of those days make it seem like a different world. This clip is different. It's relatable.

Back in the day, if there was a man on third, and you hit a walkoff homer, you only got credit for a single.

Baseball historians, was it Ted Williams who spit towards the media and/or fans after hitting a homer? If so, when was that? During an all-star or his last game?
