In all honesty and seriousness, what do you think makes Louisiana Tech University football elite?

Which is it? They will never travel to Monroe, or they will if the first game is played in Ruston?
Sounds like you don't have a clue about what you are talking about. But why would you, smart asses usually don't. We all know your MO.

You do understand that it was the ULM side that didn't supply the return game that stopped this whole party right?
Proof???
If this is true, I'm sure it wasn't because the ULM Admin just didn't want to play. It probably involved something other than just a one-and-one in Monroe and Ruston. Like Tech offering two in Ruston and one in Monroe. But I have no clue, just speculating.

It's a joke, home-boy! It's a reference to what Dooley said a while back that pissed off the Monroe media. Eliteness is relative I guess, and so if we perceive our program above ULM's, then we perceive it to be more elite. Now, how are we compared to the entirety of FBS? I'm not a delusional fool, and I know we're CERTAINLY not elite there. Do we want to be? Obviously, which is why we don't support LSU, because the majority of the Tech fanbase is only concerned with Tech climbing the echelons, and LSU doesn't help us in that regard.
Tech has had more success and has a better national perception than ULM, but it's not like ULM can't better their status just because of Tech. Rather than being concerned with playing the yearly games with in-state schools or whatever, ULM could also just concentrate on their national prominence and win their conference consistently, and win the tough games besides Louisiana ones. If Tech and ULM were to play each other over and over and over, one of two things would happen. You'd either have one team continue to rise while the other one is beaten into submission, OR they would both just sit where they are and not progress. It's hard to have two teams in sparsely populated North Louisiana 30 miles apart from each other trying to both rise in the FBS ranks while playing each other constantly, especially when they are lumped in as just a "little brother" in-state school relative to LSU.
It's about separation. Why can't ULM follow Tech's formula for success and just move on? The fanbase and the football world do not consider this an exciting matchup to begin with, so why's it so important? If you want to talk about attendance, ULM had a nice chunk of attendance inviting Grambling in, and they won handily. What's wrong with doing that?

That was a great post. Just gained some respect for you. I almost completely agree with you. The fact that we are 30-35 miles apart will never change. We are both small schools competing for athletes and fans in a not so populated part of the state, compared to other parts. But I think the reason we should play every year is simple, it is good all around for both schools, fans, and communities. Are there going to be years when one or both teams absolutely suck, yes. That shouldn't matter. There will be years when one team's fans won't travel well because they are disgruntled with the product on the field. But whether you want to admit it or not, and I know you won't, this rivalry would be good for both programs in the long run. Initially, you know they would be close to sellouts. After that it just all depends on how well each team is doing. But like XIV said, if it is played on Labor Day weekend each year and it is the first game for both teams, you know there would be some excitement. There would be excitement generated throughout the offseason and summer. I see this as a great scenario for both teams.

Honestly, neither one of us REALLY knows what this would or wouldn't do for the fanbases. We both have our ideas of what it would do, but neither of us is calling the shots of either athletic department. I PERSONALLY don't really care, because I feel like Tech would kick some arse, and I go to all Tech games regardless of if it's against Alabama (whom Tech has a winning record against, woohoo!) or Southeastern Louisiana. I admit I have a respect problem for a lot of ULM fans because they seem to accept failure and not put much into their program, at least from my own perception. It bothers me to see Tech, ULM, ULL, and Tulane fans supporting LSU, and that's no jab at LSU. It's just that if people do not take hold of their program, donate money, and do what they can to support it against all else, it will not succeed. Tech fans get crap from ULM and ULL fans more than anyone, so it's easy to react to assholes like XIV here. I can't stand the flaming and retarded comments out of Monroe and the slant of their local media toward Tech, when we have nothing to do with any success or failure of ULM in athletics. I grew up around Tech and ULM sports and not only didn't care about LSU, I didn't even really know anything about it, so I do like to see ULM do well. We REALLY need to establish ourselves in North Louisiana and stop trying to "be Cajun" or whatever. North Louisiana is GOD'S COUNTRY. haha
To end with a positive comment, I'm watching the MTSU @ Troy game right now to see what you guys are up against. I'll be watching to see if y'all can win the Sun Belt since you're on top right now. What if Tech won the WAC and ULM won the Sun Belt? That'd be some pretty good football in a little 30-mile strip of rural Louisiana! Honestly, if I still lived up there, I'd go to a ULM game or two whenever Tech didn't play at home. I used to back when I lived in Ruston.

wow this is really impressive. This thread is still alive 3 weeks later? wow just wow
And BTW Tech fan...This is a MORE SPORTS BOARD which means non LSU topics. Also most fans of small schools in this state root for their school on their level, then root for the in state school who plays with the big boys.

would LA fans rather see an LSU national championship and 4 middling other teams in this state, or would they rather see all five teams ranging from 7-5 to 10-2, but none standing out?
i'll take the national championship, thanks

I think what he (Ktulu7) was saying is that as smaller programs in Louisiana, smaller student populations, smaller population areas, we need every dollar that we can get to support all of our athletic programs. This is true of all D1 schools other than LSU. Again not knocking LSU, but when ULM, ULL, and Tech alumni choose to spend thier money supportin LSU (which it is their right to do so) over their alma mater makes it hard for the "smaller" programs to improve and get better. It is all about $$$ and the more you have, the better facilities you can have, easier to recruit, etc. Tech had several years of mediocrity and finally many alumni said enough. We want something better for our school and our teams, and that started with Dooley's hire.

Yeah whatever. Tech aims to compete with LSU down the line. I don't accept LSU as the only show in town. We don't lump ourselves in with the other schools either. Get used to it, Tiger fans. You will get booed and heckled at a Tech game with LSU gear on.

tech fans and ULL fans=penis envy
Get used to it...it will never happen. You may slip up and beat LSU once every 40 years or so, but you will never compete with LSU in most athletics. Don't get me wrong I like to see Tech do well, but you need to wake up if you think Tech will actually compete with LSU in facitlies, recruits, money, size, attendance, etc.

If you're going to bullshite me about why Tech won't play ULM, you might as well have a sense of humor about it.
I just figured it was worth pointing out that you can't spell "bullshite" without LT either...

It's not penis envy. We don't want to be LSU. It has nothing to do with Baton Rouge. You should get off your high horse, because it's not like you have anything to do with the bullshite ways LSU corruptly got themselves to the top over the years to begin with. Honestly I'd rather Tech blow everyone out and rise through the ranks, playing EVERYONE in the nation except for LSU. That way I can ignore the bandwagon LSU fan folks and will get to hear the bitching from them the same way we hear from ULM when we don't play them.
Posted on 10/6/09 at 9:47 pm to Ktulu7
Oh geez....now LSU "corruptly" got to the top......please do tell. I hope you have something to base that on....because it sounds....well.....alot like whining.
Posted on 10/7/09 at 12:42 am to oompaw
don't be mad because everyone in THIS STATE cares about LSU, while half of them don't even know what conference tech plays in.
that THE Louisiana STATE University has more bandwagon fans alone than tech has had fans total in that POS high school stadium all year combined.
to tech as their attendance is below both ULL and ULM...wow the UL sisters draw more than tech...impressive...Tech=elite WAC door mat.
