it was a good game because of the matchup and the stakes, not the actual play on the field.

So by going off of this, last nights game was a good game then.

Good game =/= greatest game ever.

It was a competitive game in the sense that with both offenses, neither team was ever anywhere near out of it even with a 10 point deficit. The sloppiness of the penalties and just lack of team defense keeps it from being a great or greatest ever game.

Agreed.

Last night's game is a perfect example of what Roger Goodell has wanted the game to become for some time now.

You surely weren't complaining when the Saints dropped 45+ the last 3 weeks.

2 of those weeks they shut their opponents to 21 total points by playing great defense. Complimentary football.

Even you know that comparison is silly.

Yeah and people kept saying that’s the greatest game they’ve ever seen. Trash defense outside of a couple good d line plays doesn’t make a great game.

So it's ok if 1 team scores 50 every game?

It's really not a bad comparison at all, especially considering the Saints have done it 3 straight weeks now, and I'm sure you're giddy like a school girl over it like the rest of us Saints fans.

And gives up less than 20? Yes, that’s a dominant team on both sides of the ball

It is. You’re comparing 2 shitty defensive teams to a team that has dominated inferior opponents on both sides of the ball.

Mahomes has 4 losses when his team scores 50 pts or more

So if both teams score 50 it's shitty defense/rules but if 1 team scores 50 it's not shitty defense?

That makes no sense.

And you're not conceding the Saints are playing shitty defense, you're giving all the credit to the Saints offense but no credit to the Rams/Chiefs offenses.

You said it, not me. That’s not my point at all.

Yay Saints offense for scoring 50!

Boo Rams/Chiefs offense for scoring 50, it's just shitty defense/rules changes!!!

There were 3 interceptions, 5 forced fumbles, 8 sacks, 3 defensive touchdowns, 10 passes defended, 3rd down conversion %'s were 50 and 36, and neither team managed 100 rushing yards. That's some pretty good defensive performances.

3 defensive touchdowns
Given this, couldn't you arguably that the defense was worse in the Saints/Rams game?

Saints/Rams saw defenses give up 80 points while forcing 2 turnovers. Last night the defenses gave up 84 points while forcing 7 turnovers and scoring 3 TDs of their own. Also, last night we saw 1001 yards of total offense, only slightly more than the 970 yards for Saints/Rams.

I know TH03 doesn't have the energy to deal with me today, but I'd be interested to see how he rationalizes that away to say the defenses were soooooooo much worse last night compared to Saints/Rams where I'm sure he wasn't complaining about the shitty defenses then. I'd say it's pretty clear defense was worse in Saints/Rams.

meh. yes, offenses are scoring more due to rules. but the NFL isnt going to be this. these are two great offensive coaches with great offensive weapons with defenses that have large holes or key injuries. i dont think you will ever see a NFL where both teams are scoring over 50

and even then, we only got here because of three defensive touchdowns

What's the difference between 2 elite defenses with zero offensive moment compared to 2 elite offenses with little defensive resistance

For me, in a defensive game, it's because I know either of the teams only needs one big touchdown and they'll win--it was more suspenseful in 9-6--the game could be decided on any play. Last night, we all knew it was going to be decided at the end, and probably on the last one or two possessions.

The Browns lost to the Raiders 45-42 earlier this year. Couldn't believe what i was watching. My Browns score 40+ points and lose a game.

Zomg mahomes threw 2 horrendous interceptions and held on to the ball 3 hours too late twice so the rams defense is incredible!!!!1

It’s a casual fan take to go by statlines alone.

And if we’re going by how the running game went, gurley did about the exact same against the saints just with fewer receiving yards.

Just take your L, defenses weren't any worse last night than Saints/Rams.

No need to get all pissy and sarcastic. You could try a legit response if you had one.

1001 yards to 970, big difference? 7 turnovers of which you give zero credit to the defenses? Are you going to even try to do this analysis from an unbiased perspective or nah?

Defenses last night only gave up 4 more points and 31 more yards, but forced 5 more turnovers and scored additional TDs.
