San Diego state targets and causes an incompletion to win the game. Something is wrong with this.

No different than any other penalty. Defensive players on a final play are told to do anything they can, interfere if they have to

I bet this will become a spot foul next year in situations like that. Not sure how they will word the rule but any loophole that can even loosely be construed as putting the player's safety at risk will not be tolerated based on what we've seen over the last few years.

Exactly. Im pretty sure Auburn’s player were instructed to jump over the the linemen to attemp blocking the game winner. There’s not much downside in most situations.

How's it beneficial? Game can't end on a defensive penalty. Unless you get away with it, you just gave the offense a shorter field.

1. You might get away with it
2. Shorter field is better than a TD

3. If the offense scores they just decline it.
4. If the offense doesnt score, they get another shot.

The ending to that game was bananas. Wish I could of been there.

Targeting is a personal foul. That's a 15-yard penalty and automatic 1st down. I think I would be opposed to making it a spot foul.

Especially in the college game, there's no real downside to holding or PI'ng on a "need a TD or game over" type play.

defensive player DOESN'T commit targeting, it's a catch and ASU has the ball on like the 2

Defensive player DOES commit targeting, he knocks the ball loose and ASU still has to complete a 35 yard pass to win

It's only beneficial if the targeting prevents the catch and if time on the clock is a factor
