I think he is overrated from espn n next wooden standard

He was amazing in 80s and early 90s.

I would take knight, Pitino and Calhoun over him as pure coaches

Those guys stayed three or four years.

Even more incredibly, he's won that tournament *5* times.

Revisiting this thread after Duke lost again last night to Wake Forest.

Fun Fact: Duke hasn't won an ACC regular season title since 2010. They have had 4 #1 national recruiting classes in that same time span (And yes I know the 2015 team won a national title).

I have a feeling I will be revisiting this thread again next month when Duke makes another early exit from the NCAA tournament.

he, like a ton of coaches, is great at recruiting and building a roster, he really is more of a CEO than a head coach

as far as X's and O's, I've never found him to be anything special. not bad at all, but not innovative or particularly great at adjusting to changes in game plan

Are we talking about K or Cal, cause I have said the same about Cal.

Anytime I think about K, two things come to mind, one is the loss in the greatest game in college basketball history, and the 2nd is the "revenge" game of 1998, when UK came back from I think 17 down to beat Duke in the regional final. Tubby played that one great, wouldn't use a time out after Duke had used up their last one with like 10 minutes left in the 2nd half, and UK slowly climbed back into the game. It was pretty masterful.

I've said before, give me Tubby's in game coaching and Cal's recruiting and you will have something special.

Oh, and I'm no Duke fan obviously, but you can't argue with wins/losses, and K has to be considered one of the best, if nothing else, for his longevity and record alone.

Or just maybe his team isn't that great this year?

He has 5 stars all over the court and a PG who could have been a 1st rd pick LAST season. If he cant win with this much talent that means every other team in college bball should have an excuse too.

If NCs is your measure of a great coach or program, Coach K has more National Championships in his career than the following programs: Indiana, UConn, Louisville, Kansas, Michigan State.

If not, he’s literally the winningest coach in college basketball history. Winning at around a 75% clip.

Every single coach has down years. It’d be like discrediting everything Roy Williams has done in his career based on just this year alone.

This is an anomaly for Roy though. And UNC hasnt had nearly thw recruiting success that Duke has had in recent years. I dont think UNC had one #1 class the past decade. But they still went to two national title games. Everyone knows just looking at wins and titles Coach K has done well but you have to consider it in light of the players he gets.

Honestly, it just further reinforces how hard it is to win the NCAA Tournament. Even if you have talent and good coaching.

When UNC has a down year, Roy doesn't fake a sickness and take the rest of the year off.

Fun fact: In the ACC, their conference champ is the tourney champ. Which Duke just won last year.

Would you argue that Bob Huggins isn’t considered a great coach because he’s never won a NCAA Championship?

When is the last time West Virginia even had a top 10 recruiting class?

Winning with freshman in college hoops is not the norm. So you expect him to win titles every year because he has five stars you don't know much about the sport.

We talking about coaching or recruiting, so 2 separate things.
