Cap space doesn’t work that way my friend. Rui, Reaves, Schroder, and Lonnie are all on expiring contracts this year and are set to receive large pay bumps. Can’t sign all of them and Kyrie

would theoretically be a sign and trade

I certainly would not look forward to the latest mystery reason he misses games again.

True, but sign and trade doesn’t ease cap issues in this situation. A sign and trade activates the hard salary cap, which I think is at like $170M next year. The Lakers need around $188M to resign all of the guys I mentioned and bring Kyrie in, assuming you let D’Lo walk and don’t pick up Beasley’s option. Plus, LA would have to sweeten the deal for the Mavs to consider doing that, then being in the same conference and all.

Really the only way it happens is if Kyrie takes a sizable pay cut or if the Lakers let two of those four guys walk.

A guy you could reasonably get AND resign those four players is Fred Vanvleet, which I think would be a great signing.

I’d rather swap out Beverly D’Angelo for either of them.

just wait until LeBron issues the Lakers an ultimatum demanding they acquire Kyrie or else he retires.
