Actually, it tested positive for he said it was bird shhh

But, prosecutors announced late Thursday they were dropping the charges ... admitting the substance on Werts' car was NOT cocaine.

"I was informed that the test did come back and that there was no controlled substance found," Saluda County prosecutor Al Eargletold the Savannah Morning News.

Georgia Southern athletic director Tom Kleinlein announced Friday the team was "elated to get the news" regarding Werts ... and said the QB is no longer subject to punishment over the incident.

Werts has been a star for the Eagles the past 2 seasons ... rushing for 1,630 yards and 18 scores on the ground while adding 1,916 yards and 17 TDs passing in 24 career games.

Werts is expected to open the season as the team's starter vs. LSU on Aug. 31.

False positive?

One officer touched the white substance, taking up approximately a third of the hood.
He said, 'What the f*** is that? It’s not even dry. We’re going to test and see.”
The officer can be seen shaking the test kit to activate it. He asked himself, “is it turning pink?”
The body cam video showed the test did turn pink, indicating it was positive for cocaine.

I didn’t watch the video either but what tygeray said in his post:

seems like they had an actual reason to arrest him at that moment in time.

Same, once had a roommate arrested for an infinitesimal amount and he was still initially charged with a felony.

As a TD lawya, can you answer if that kind of thing varies by state?

It sounds like they are using the old search the car “smells like weed in here” excuse but with field test that gives false positives

The test they use can "test positive" for over 80 different substances including acne medication, incense, cleaning supplies, and cotton candy. It's a POS test that shouldn't be used but b/c police departments care more about losing collars with false negatives than false positives we get these shitty tests that constantly stick people in jail for no good reason.
