still an elite ball handling point guard who is probably the best playmaker in the league, at least on the same level as lebron, who plays above average defense for a point guard
His playmaking ability comes from his shooting. Without his shooting he's a tier below LBJ. This year he's a tier above him but I'd like to see how the playoffs play out. That's all I want to say about that because I hate the "if" game.
Curry>LBJ>>>>>does it matter this year?

, maybe a HOFer but nobody anyone thinks twice about in the best player ever discussion.
quote:michael would not come anywhere close to being considered a top 5 player in the history of the game if he couldnt average 30 a game off his mid range jumper. come on now. he would for sure be a HOF, but not top 5 all time. if lebron wasnt as dominant in his drives to the hoop, there is no way he would still be considered a top 5 player as well. if you take those away from them, just like curry, they would obviously not be in the conversation. we can even expand this and talk about the other greats. what if we take kareems sky hook away? what if we take magics playmaking abilities away?
still been two of the five best players ever because they were all time great finishers, defenders and two of the best athletes in sports history.

Lebron and Jordan could have never made a shot outside of 15 feet and still been two of the five best players ever because they were all time great finishers, defenders and two of the best athletes in sports history.
Generally I am with you overall...but, that's not really a fair point...you can't just take Curry's shooting away then let the others keep their biggest strengths.
I agree on the defense...ultimately, that's what keeps Curry out of the discussion...and I think he is a solid defender, that isn't enough when talking "all time great" though.

People need to ask themselves this though: If you take away his shooting, what is Steph Curry?
Now ask the same question of Jordan or Lebron and the answer is they are STILL two of the greatest players of all time.
That's a silly point because shooting is Curry's greatest strength, while not being one for Jordan/LeBron
Take away Jabbars post game and what is he?

But it's not like Michael was this great defensive player when he entered the league. That really didn't come about until their title runs. And even then, he never had truly great defensive matrics. Nothing like what we are seeing kawhi having

Kawhi doesn't really count, though, because he's a robot.
I, for one, am kind of tired of these non-humans infiltrating the game of basketball. Got an extraterrestrial fricking with the laws of physics in the Bay Area, too. Ruining the game

i guess my point is that while yes, michael was the better defensive player, his defensive numbers dont actually point to him being this defensive god. he had fairly above average defensive metric numbers. he had elite steal % and defensive win share numbers, but his DRtg and his DBPM numbers were just above average. he was 100% the better defensive player than steph is, but its not like he was what kawhi leonard is today and steph is james harden

We need to ask the question. Is steph curry >Jordan?
Let me know when Steph wins a defensive player of the year award.
