Never been a Yankee fan and never will be but their success is linked straight to him. He wanted to win and his ability to get whoever he wanted may be unmatched even to Jerry Jones. You can't say he never tried his damnedest to win. The ultimate fan's owner.

quote:Pretty sure they didn't start developing through their farm system until King George got banned from baseball.
Williams was a lifelong Yankee, Posada too. I believe Pettitte also came up through the farm system.
They were a mess in the 80's with him refusing to do anything w/ the farm system and just throwing around money trying to buy stars.

They were a mess but they did have players come up through the system. Although if George thought he could get someone better than you, you were gone.
Thank God he didn't get rid of Donnie Baseball

"Winning means everything to me, winning is second to second. Second to breathing" - George Steinbrenner
He once tried to cut his employees dental insurance so he could pay players more.
These two things sum him up.

Did anyone catch the story how a few years ago he had trouble getting a room for the Mich vs. Ohio St. game, so he ended up building a hotel in Columbus with his own personal penthouse...AWESOME!!!

I am an absolute HATER of the Yankess, but I loved Steinbrenner. Maybe I'm biased as a Buckeye fan, but I just loved his will to win.

Yeah I'm sure Steinbrenner walked into the last Hampton Inn in Columbus and they told him they were all booked up. You don't actually believe this shite do you?
