Star Spangled Banner is kind of a trash song. Much prefer America the Beautiful tbh

On a very basic level, it provides entertainment as usually a local/regional performer gets the chance to sing in front of 10,000+.

I guess tradition isn’t a good enough answer. So now the question is why stop? If it doesn’t matter then why argue?
SVG has his political reasons and none of those are actually good either.

Lyrically and sonically, it's a pretty lousy song. It doesn't rhyme, and it wasn't written for the music it is sung to. Technically, it kind of sucks. It also divides just as much as it unites people.
If it were put up to Congress today for consideration as our nation's signature song, it'd be laughed at by both sides. It is also virtually impossible for the average person to sing along with without switching octaves.
Also, nothing about it has anything to do with sports, which is SVG's point.

SVG just asked a question. "Why do we do this?" No one has given an intelligible response yet.

No reason it has to be the anthem, which most of them can't sing worth a crap, because it's a stupidly hard song to sing well.

What would you prefer?
Yankee Doodle Dandie
America the Beautiful
My Country Tis if Thee
God of Our Fathers
Hail to the Chief
Matilda
Get Low
Born in the USA
They’re Coming To America

I'd prefer sports without any unnecessary, politically grandstanding songs beforehand. My guess is the vast majority of pro athletes would, too.
Keep editing your post to add more random, grammatically incorrect shite that doesn't make sense.

So "because we've already been doing it for a while" is the best justification? That is terrible logic.
Is it though? How many things do humans do because they've already been doing them for a while?

What a dumbass. And he coached at Wisconsin.
A good reason to play the anthem is patriotism. That is plenty.
Another list of reasons:
Sportsmanship between opposing teams and fans
Tradition
Chance to spotlight singers or performers
Pride in the USA having the best sports experience on the planet
And finally....if you tear it down what do you replace it with? There are always tradeoffs.

I don’t think they should play it before an event if there’s evidence that some people will use that opportunity to draw attention to something other than what the anthem represents.

Could you imagine being forced to stand for the anthem when you clock in for work?
