What are the first ones that come to mind?

I’ll submit:

99 yard run or pass play

Only can be tied but never broken

Though in NCAA FB 12 it was somehow possible to have a 100 yard scrimmage play

super lame one, but....

wilt chamberlain averaged 48.5 mpg over an nba season. unless the game is changed (which then you could switch to record by percentage), this is the most unbreakable record in all of sports IMO

Imagine if Covid was going on in the Ripken days. He would’ve been exposed and forced to sit out.

And did it despite playing for the Cleveland Browns...which makes it even more remarkable. As tough as they get.

He actually got hurt in college.

Mostly because they put him in on defense as they were short.

Played his entire career in fricking Cleveland. What a waste.

This.

Not only is the game different nowadays in terms of strategies for resting players, but having a chance to even approach that record relies on too many variables like injury, illness, family commitments (i.e. kids being born, death in the family), and above all production. You might have the other aforementioned variables go your way, but you still have to be talented enough to be an MLB starter for over 16 years, which is obviously easier said than done.

The craziest part of that record is that #3 on the list (Gehrig is obviously #2) played less than HALF the number of consecutive games (1,307) that Ripken ultimately did (2,632).
