2. USC
3. LSU
4. Oregon

I read it wrong. I was thinking the previous three 09-11 and not 10-12.

What's crazy about that? In 2010 they were the defending national champion; in 2011 they finished the season as the national champion; this year they're the defending champs. Sound like pretty safe picks to me.

Notre Dame won't spend much time at all in the Top 25 at all this year. Looking at their schedule, I think 8 wins is incredibly generous.

So they're batting .500 the past two seasons. That's as good and better than most preseason rankings.
