The Kenny Smith thread regarding Rockets vs. Bulls had me thinking. What championship matchups were fans robbed of over the years?

One that came to mind was Cavs vs. Lakers in 2009. Kobe vs. LeBron. Another one was the Vikings vs. the Broncos in 1998.

That definitely would have been one of the all-time great Super Bowls.

Red Sox vs. Cubs in 2003

Raiders vs. Cowboys in the 70s

49ers vs. Raiders in 1983 (SF almost came back against Washington in the NFCCG with the winner facing the Raiders)

Vikings vs. Colts SB for the 2009-2010 season. Should have been one for the ages.

Thank you. That was also a hypothetical of teams in different eras or years. I'm talking about actual matchups that never happened due to upsets, injuries, etc.

Yeah, this is easily #1 for me. It's a complete shame that a Carroll vs. Meyer/Saban matchup in the NCG never happened.

The Randy Moss/Cris Carter Vikings vs. the Terrel Davis/John Elway Broncos Super Bowl would have been fun.

Raiders vs. Steelers in the AFC playoffs WAS the Super Bowl in the 70's.

Raiders went to 6 AFC Title games in the 70's (5 straight) and won 1 Super Bowl.

Damn those Steelers.

McEnroe vs. Boris Becker on grass in the Wimbledon Final during the mid-80's.

They played each a few times over the years but never a grand final and never on their best surface for each, grass.

1985 Mac was still in his prime and Becker was the hot-shot kid...but as the #1 seed Mac lost in the quarterfinals and Becker won Wimbledon. The next year Becker won Wimbledon again but McEnroe had just married Tatum O'Neil and took a 6-month break from tennis.

70-17 wasn't enough for you?

Or 23-0 (vs. Auburn)

I still don't believe that game would have been great at all. People act like it would have been so much different than Oklahoma. I doubt it. Oklahoma was actually favored going into the game.

And USC pretty much played the Auburn game (23-0) the year before...most everyone from both teams returned.

I mean they beat freaking VaTech 16-13 in the Sugar Bowl.
