Lol. Boston basically created a new zone defense in 2008. So yes, defenses now are different and more sophisticated. Just like they are in football compared to 20 years ago
Holy shite... What was it ?
A 1-1-2-2?
3 1/5 -1- 1/2?
A super freak D?
How did it work man?
How did they lose with such innovation, and a big three?

46.4 points per 100 possessions
I like this stat.
I also like it because Jordan blows the rest of those guys out of the water in it.

3 points more than steph is definitely an advantage but it's not super crazy

I know they won one championship.
Bitch, if you think Larry, Magic, or Jordan wouldn't have figured out some frickin zone defense with the quickness, I don't know what to tell you.
NONE of them are complicated. I guess it's possible that today's players are too dumb to figure them out, and they really are "sophisticated" to them.
This will turn into that kin of thread. Some people claim something in an argument, not have the ability to explain what they believe, an sarcasm their way through the rest of it.

Joe Caldwell's tough defense against Hall of Fame guards (including Oscar Robertson) and Hall of Fame forwards (including Julius Erving) earned him two All-Star selections in the NBA and two more in the ABA. Caldwell describes the defensive trap that current Detroit Pistons coach Larry Brown implemented when Caldwell played for the ABA's Carolina Cougars: "We let a guy (offensive player) take off by the out of bounds line heading toward his goal, but he's going down the sideline. We had a thing where he'd get to a certain point and then it was up to that guard to make him either turn and come back or go behind his back and when he did that, it was my job--or whoever was in the middle--to shut that position off. They don't do that stuff now. He tried to do it in Detroit. They came close to it, but they're still not fast enough. If L.A. had been playing right they could have beaten them, but they weren't playing right." Caldwell explains, "L.A. was trying to dribble the ball up. You can't dribble the ball up against that. You have to pass it. They didn't do any of that, right? Fisher wants to dribble it up, right? Kobe wants to dribble it up. I was like, 'What are you doing?'" Caldwell notes that Gary Payton's well documented struggles during the series only compounded the problem for the Lakers: "When he tried to dribble it up, he was dribbling it off his foot or going too fast and he was passing it at the wrong time. That's what the trap does--it makes you do things that you are not supposed to do. So Larry Brown is a master at it. He's been doing it for (over) 25 years."
Loved the last line

So you took one line to prove your argument out of all of that. I'm done here.

20 page scouting reports?
Surely they're lying because this poster says defenses aren't sophisticated!!!

Pretty big line in a blog... That YOU provided.
Forgive me for not selecting the part that acts like coaches didn't have video capabilities in the eighties.

If you watch an NBA game and think that you are watching the effectiveness of a twenty page scouting report, you are crazy.
Posted on 2/29/16 at 6:44 pm to bgtiger
You are delusional if you think one comment about one coach running a similar trap throughout his career equates to negating the rest of the information laid out.

Larry was and Curry is premier free throw shooters. that really matters in close games.

More filler, less fact. Thanks younger generation.
My teenage son acts like all of you... regurgitates selective stats, and falls off to snarky nonsense when he can't find any perspective.
Literally every new great player is the GOAT. Every new great team is the GOAT. Every new flavor of the week player in every sport is the unstoppable force. You laugh at the wisdom of elders, because "you know"
You pukes were probably all on the side of LBJ v Kobe, less than two years ago. Remember LBJ was the GOAT, because he is the newest?
It's just the same ole shite I've heard for a couple decades, yet most of the next GOATS and game changers proclaimed by idiotic youth (and SFP), have gone by the wayside.
Just let it play out

Jesus, you have a lot of anger built up over this. Four paragraphs? Then you want to turn around and say others are typing "filler"? Ok
Also, you don't know who the frick you're talking to if you think I've ever been a fan of LBJ or Kobe.
So kindly STFU

More of the same. Still waiting on the elusive explanation of how basketball defenses are complex these days.
Get off my lawn, because you don't own one, but want to tell me what grass is a better choice.
