So we sped the game up to have more commercial breaks?

Less football

More timeouts and breaks

You don't like?

I didn't watch much football the last 2 years

If the NFL product is the same next weekend...I won't be watching much of either this season

It didn't even feel like college football

Both products I grew up loving but both have their issues

CFB destroying conferences, neutral site games, rivalries being discarded, mimicking NFL rules and applying them horribly like targeting, NIL/And just greed in general at the player, coach, university level...making everyone a mercenary kind of destroys what CFB meant to me and why I loved it

I definitely don't disagree. Here's a pro tip though. Start the game an hour late, silence your phone and enjoy being live in the fourth quarter while missing an hour of commercials and halftime talk. Makes it so much more enjoyable.

The worst was the first LSU drive, going for it on 4th and goal. Huge play in the game, and they cut to the game right as the ball snapped?

That just showed me commercials are more important than the game to ESPN/ABC. They’ll dig their own grave eventually.

I don’t know if there are more breaks, but they sure seem longer.

Same number of ads during a shorter broadcast is a noticeably worse product.

Saturday the Tennessee game took one hour fortythree minutes of air time to include thirty minutes of on the field activity,

Tonight's LSU game took one hour and fifty nine minutes of air time to inclued thirty minutes of on the field activity.

For both, the on the field activity seemed to be a lot less than 30 minutes of playing football and lots of standing and running around.

During the Oregon State/San Jose State game, CBS cut to commercials with 4 seconds left in a 42-17 rout.

"the games are too long!"

The games were never the problem

Did you think the Networks were going to give up their revenue? The ESPNs of this world have ruined most sports with their absurd deals for rights, and it has led to this stupidity and ruining the games.

Easy solution for all of this - stop watching. As soon as people stop watching, everything will change. Every time I tried to watch the Northwestern game today, it was at commercial. I stopped flipping the channel to it, and ended up not watching a minute of the game.

With the odd commercial breaks in the LSU game, I stopped watching that one after a while.

Less viewers will mandate a change.

Thankfully, F1 on ESPN is commercial-free.

this is because ESPN basically got the TV rights for free and had Mothers Car Care fund the broadcasts - since the rights were like $5M

Now that ESPN has thrown out close to $100M per year for the F1 rights, ratings have plateaued/declined and F1 has reached its zenith of popularity, you are probably going to see commericals starting next year. Especially with ESPN’s increasingly precarious financial position

I posted this is another thread:

quote:

Less game time = more commercial time = more money.

Unfortunately, college and professional sports reached their zenith in the 90s and 2000s. Now it’s all about money. 5 hour pregame shows, streaming, long commercial breaks, NIL, transfers, huge coaching salaries, playoffs, dying off of bowls and tradition. Sad to watch.

Sad to watch CFB go downhill.

And every game now has a 15 minute pregame show before kickoff. Remember back on the 2:30 CBS games, they would go live to Verne and Gary and the players were on the field and the ball was on the tee.

Hate the new clock rules. Speeding up the game means making more games less of a game quicker. Pay good money to see a game to really watch chewing the clock happen by the league not the team. The game is taking a step back.

I’m definitely going to watch a lot less college football this year because of the rule change.

As a whole college football has gotten a lot less interesting anyway, and these shortened games and increased commercials make it almost completely unwatchable.

A VPN and a subscription to F1 TV takes care of that.

35 years ago, I enjoyed watching college football on Saturday afternoons. I enjoyed listening to LSU football games on the radio while chilling with my college sweetheart. I would even watch SWC games since I lived in Houston.

Now, it’s all about the mighty dollar and breaking rivalries. Not to mention, blatant cheating with paying players. Obviously cheating was a thing back then too but at least grandma didn’t see it going on outside church services.

I liked the game better 35 years ago.

I think it’s already dug and this is all going to crash sooner rather than later.
